*shrugs* How many millions of tax payer money lost to Carrier for afew hundred jobs just to make Trump look good? And we expect to upgrade $ billion in infrastructure?

I'll give Trump points for bringing this issue further to light. I love the fact United Technologies, the parent company for Carrier, was put on the spot with regards to their government contracts. These companies should be PENALIZED for shipping jobs overseas and only rewarded with tax cuts, subsidies, government grants, if they do not ship ANY of their jobs overseas. This Carrier situation is only for publicity and is not helping anything.

Unions are not involved in company policy making

Got to disagree with that one. They are. One of the other reasons for the big get together on contract negotiation day
Shop Steward for 10 years , and I am an American .

Of course , back then , Unions were a lot different Today , it is all about money , power , and politics in the US. It used to be all about the worker and their welfare in my day. Know how many times I have witnessed an employee that got sick and couldnt work yet their bills were magically paid ?

What? No they don't. They negotiate for pay and that's all they do, they do not at all affect company policy or company decisions, they just try to negotiate for fair [often more than fair] contracts.

Many companies won't even deal with unionized employees also, like The Home Depot. If you're unionized or mention unions, you are terminated -- nationwide, it's part of their hiring contract.

A shop "steward" doesn't do anything but pretend he's a union rep. It's an employee committee position which isn't, nor should it be, recognized officially by the company you work for. It's how people in non-unionized states try to fight for union rights.

A shop foreman would on the other hand be in the know, but even he still wouldn't make policy or major direction decisions. He hires/fires and runs the production, which means he knows what you get paid, but he doesn't do pay roll. He's a manager, so he would potentially be on the other side of the table come negotiation time.

You as a steward could never make a company do something they didn't want to do, or see value in doing, just like a union can't either, because unions/stewards don't have any recognized power.

Still butt hurt from the Trump victory I see.

The only thing people should be butt hurt about is the use of the term "butt hurt."

I prefer sphincter-ache.

Yes, Trump winning gives me a sphincter ache, kind of like that time Hillary threatened me with a terminal hemorrhoid.

This thread has 85 flags, meaning it should be a substantial thread, but it's a bullshlt thread with a divisive OP.

I'm losing faith in ATS.

Oh, fiscally conservative people didn't like Obama's economics because he was black? How interesting. Are you always this racist or just in this thread?

Of course racism played a part in objection of Obama as president.

Reality sucks.

Almost as much as denial.

That isnt the statement that was made now was it?

The inability to read sucks.

Almost as much as the inability to comprehend what one reads.
