Unfortunately, in this case, US law requires he either has an attorney or represents himself if able to do so. Hopefully it is an open and shut case if he did intentionally do this and regardless of attorney he gets the maximum sentence.

The first question I had was whether it was an intentional act. His quote makes it seem so, but it's not completely certain. Maybe the breaks wouldn't work and he blurted out the first asinine thing that popped into his addled brain.
However, I suspect all these other people are entertaining racial and/or religious motivations.
