The Angry White Man Next Door: hearing out a trump voter

Has an interview a journalist does with @Deplorable Chris who tweeted profanity, violence, hatred, vitriol and unabashed ad hom name-calling. He sits in his fancy house and 'explains' how he was just venting, and he won't let his kids on Twitter until their 30 (or begin dating).

His language truly is deplorable, and he embodies what terrifies us on the other side looking across the chasm with slack-jawed wonder.

It was a roil of anger — calling for punching anti-Trump protesters; endorsing the killing of Muslims in the U.S. and the nuking of Muslim countries abroad; suggesting Hillary Clinton should hang herself; joking that Obama might be shot. He accused Clinton of a career spent killing unborn babies — after having told me in detail that he believed abortion was not the government’s business. He advocated “pitchforks and torches,” having assured me that my fear of violence was baseless.

“That smug c*** has been sitting on that tape just waiting to release it to the media … she’s way behind and desperate,” he wrote after the “Access Hollywood” audio was released.

“Finally someone is speaking to this f***ing witch the way she deserves to be spoken to,” he wrote after the first presidential debate.

“.9% of the US Population is Muslim 63 percent of those are immigrants. Would it really be a big loss if we just got rid of them all?” he asked after the Brussels attacks.

And the day after I’d stopped by, he’d written, “These sensitive frustrated liberals blathering over a Trump win are like spoiled naughty children being scolded for the first time ever,” meaning maybe we hadn’t been sharing in quite as friendly a way as I had thought.

A few days later, I headed back to talk some more. I brought a camera crew because Chris had agreed we could make a video to run with this article. I also brought some printouts from his Twitter feed and warned him in advance I might be reading them aloud in case he wanted his children to leave the room first.

“Chris,” I blurted, cameras rolling. “You ARE the spider.”

You want to know why we are freaking out? This guy is a perfect example.

Here's another announcement, Betsy "Prince" De Vos for Secretary of Education. Besides being the brother of Erik Prince, who wanted to cash in on military industrial complex by founding Blackwater, Betsy will bring the rightest Christian fresh face to the Dept of Ed

Gary North explains why getting students out of public schools is key to the Christian dominionist camp. “So let us be blunt about it: we must use the doctrine of religious liberty to gain independence for Christian schools until we train up a generation of people who know that there is no religious neutrality, no neutral law, no neutral education, and no neutral civil government. Then they will get busy in constructing a Bible-based social, political, and religious order which finally denies the religious liberty of the enemies of God.”

The DeVos Family: Meet the Super-Wealthy Right-Wingers Working With the Religious Right to Kill Public Education

So what's next? As Sun Tzu said, “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

A perfect example of what? There are examples of people doing and saying horrible things on both sides of the aisle. What this man does or thinks speaks only of him and handful of who happen to be like him, regardless of the label they choose to wear.

I've been thinking maybe it's all going to just blow up right now, and we'll get it overwith.

In my view, it started with the "Arab Spring"...then came the "mid-terms" and somewhere in there was "Green Eggs and Ham" (a delightful childhood memory of mine and my children's that now is forever sullied with the dimwitted anointed one using it as a fillibuster technique. FFS! At least read the bloody DICTIONARY!

god.

I wish the mother ship would get here already......)

You are being obtuse.

That man is the embodiment of the 'electorate' on whose shoulders Trump is riding. He is vile, crude, and ignorant.

It isn't funny. He's not funny. "Just sayin...."

Oh sweet heavens above....

have you read Dirty Wars by Scahill also? It is so disturbing that it will never leave you....you can never "unread" it.

I haven't gotten too far into Blackwater yet, but I own it.
And it will be stowed away beside "The Looming Tower: 9/11 and the Road to Al-Qaeda" by Lawrence Wright.

Incidentally, I am distracting myself from the abject gravity of this situation with watching "The Crown" on Netflix.

I highly recommend it.
Times a billion recommend it.

OK, I read the whole article. Chris sounds like a class A guy and I'd be overjoyed to have him as a neighbor. A real salt of the Earth man who doesn't pull punches.

Deplorable? Seriously? Dude is expressing anger using adult words, that's not deplorable, it's cathartic.

You need to realize that the great experiment aimed at silencing opposition via shaming and namecalling that has been conducted over the past 2 decades has failed the left. There is a sizeable contingent of Americans who DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS WHAT THE 'MODERN' BASTARDIZATIONS OF AGE OLD CONCEPTS CALL THEM OR THINK ABOUT THEM. That contingent is growing. Trump's election proved we are there and also shocked the country by proving there are way, way more of us than the leftist media ever imagined. We are black, white, red, and yellow, males and females, Christians, Jews, and atheists, veterans and pacifists, straight and gay... we're people. All of us people who have reached our fill of walking on eggshells around the easily offended and tissue paper skinned few. All of us people who have had it with hearing about how badly the world needs our hard earned dollars in one ear while hearing about how we are the root of all evil in the other ear. The gravy train is over. The past 20 years will ultimately be but a blip in the road for a society which has steadily progressed for over 200 years until that unfortunate detour was taken in the 90s. This is who we are and who we have always been and America is ours once more.

Yes, learn nothing from 2 weeks ago. Keep calling the man who has sacrificed virtually everything to support his own family while accepting nearly nothing in welfare "vile." Keep calling the people who are doing nothing but expressing their frustration over years of being ignored by the system "crude." By all means, continue to look down your nose at those who don't fully supplicate themselves to the political machine by calling them "ignorant." That strategy hasn't worked very well of late, has it? Why do you think it will work for you moving forward? There is a time to preach at people and there is a time to STFU and listen to them... I appreciate the fact that those I disagree with politically have stubbornly refused to step away from the pulpit even in the face of throngs heading for the church exit.

This is a hard pill for some to swallow.

Person 1: I called you _____, that makes it true!

Person 2: No..no it doesn't.

We have played the "no it doesn't" game far too long. It seems like we're finally beginning to progress to the "I care what you think about me because why?" game. Apathy is the one response these social dictators have no response for.

I agree. Those who want to exert control over another human have relied on this tactic. Went from the playground to the White House apparently.

Keeping up with the Jones' never meant social exile if you couldn't.

I must here say i agree with what you say. I've been to America and i've seen the past 15,20 yrs change drastically since then. I always try to stay neutral because of the way people think and get upset easily so i usually stay silent on political matters. It's good the elections are done now, and i hope it gets back to the way it was without the lopsided balance we've seen for a long while.

If that is what you wish to call me, that is your choice, and you may be right, because I do not understand why people are acting like the majority of Americans voted for Trump when they did not. The electoral count was based on the number of people that voted for Trump vs Hillary. That was a very small portion of the American people. If you add the number of people that didn't vote, plus the number of people that voted, but didn't vote for Trump, you will realize that the majority of Americans do not want Trump as President. It works the other way round as well, because they don't want Hillary as President either.

So call me obtuse or anything that makes you feel smarter or better, because I don't believe the sky is falling, or that America has gone to hell in a hand basket because Trump won the election. The fact that so many want to ignore the message of the people that rejected the entire process, makes me think that they either aren't paying attention or they are buying the hype. So maybe it is not I that is being obtuse.

If by 'recover' you mean 'reinstate all the socialist and progressive agendas that have been hurting America'... I'm hoping for a few centuries.
