Good morning Family!

I am horrified to admit this, but just "logging in" to the site gave me tremendous anxiety. I have been living in a self induced isolation for a while now, and am trying to break myself out.
(Also been lurking lately, and missing you all painfully.)

I saw the new short story contest and decided to try my hand at writing again. It's been a while since I wrote anything (and I've missed that too).

This is my take on the contest. A Shed-style "Christmas Carol" theme (with the "ghost of Christmas past")...written as "T'was the Night Before Christmas". (Oh...and a touch of "It's a Wonderful Life"...lol)
It's not contest worthy, but I thought it could be my icebreaker for coming home.
(story in next post)...

Night Before Christmas/Christmas Carol (SCC2016)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all thru the Shed,
Not a creature was stirring...it's like they were dead

Likely drunk and passed out on the party room floor
So I crept down the hall, put my hand on the door

It was empty, they must have all gone off to bed
Which was weird because NOBODY slept in The Shed

Finding Sophie was futile...damn ungrateful furball
Had gone on a bender with Chip the pink gerbil

When down by the kitchen arose such a clatter
"Someone's here!" I exclaimed, running off pitter patter

I got to the kitchen...then felt all my blood drain
As I came face to face with a dragon in chains

The beast gave a growl and a menacing glare
"I'm a ghost from your past with a message to share."

"You've been quite a Grinch this year jacy, tis true...
So this is what life would be like without you."

Then the Shed turned to ashes and fell to the ground
"Yeah there IS no Shed here...if you weren't around."

"And your friends, your Shed-family found a new game..."
Then he belched a smoke circle and called them by name

When a vision appeared of them all having fun
Eating donuts and drinking egg nog and spiced rum

"Cuz YOU don't exist!" dragon bellowed at me
Then slowly I nodded..."Okay, now I see."

Standing cold in the dirt by a rundown old shack
Jacy wanted to just get her family back

"I'm sorry I said that I don't want to live!
I don't mean it, I still have so much love to give!"

And then in a twinkling, I was back in my bed
With a helluva headache...a heart full of dread

As I drew back the covers and put feet on the floor
A man in a red suit ran right past my door

He was dressed all in fur, which would make Sophie mad
But he tossed me a donut so he can't be all bad

Then he filled all the stockings, left gifts by the tree
When he finished he turned back and stood facing me

His eyes how they twinkled! His mouth formed a grin
"Are we all back to normal?" is what I asked him

He winked as he lit up a stump of a pipe
"I dunno are you done with that self-pity tripe?"

"Yes I am and I'm sorry..." I nodded and said
"Well that's good to hear jacy, now go back to bed."

As he went to the chimney I lingered a bit
"Don't watch me" he said, "I'm not sure that I'll fit!"

He really was quite a plump jolly old elf
"Is he related to Night Star?" I did ask myself

Then using his magic, "flit-poof" up he went
And all that was left was his pipe smokey scent

But I heard him exclaim, as he flew from the Shed
" Hey! PM me sometime...user name is Big Red!

*squishy hugs* jacy xoxo

I am just popping in to say hello to one of my favorite people, stop being a stranger.

You can still be strange however.

Morning Jess my love!!

Goooooooooooooooooooooooood morning Sheddians!!!!

I take it everyone is "loving" this new Monday morning just twenty days before Christmas. Hard to believe it's just twenty days until Christmas and twenty six days until 2017. Where has this year gone to?

Got some much needed railfanning done down around the Tri-State area yesterday along Norfolk Southern and at Russell Yard on CSX. Hadn't been down on the former Norfolk & Western Railway in months. After getting up at 4AM yesterday, myself and a friend of mine made a decision to go down and spend a few hours to watch some trains after we got a heads up on an empty grain train heading towards Columbus and points north.

A few minutes before the empty grain train passed by us. Our first train of the day showed up as time freight #189 heads west with a decent sized train in tow. Apologies for the crappy shot but this was taken from the video of it.

After hearing the "leader desk" talking to a train somewhere in the area about problems with the Positive Train Control on their lead unit. We knew that our next train was stopped somewhere and about to make it's way towards our location. So, once we figured out where this train was stopped at. We realized that we had an eastbound coming our way but there was just one problem. The train that we were waiting on was on its way and closing in on us after we heard the dispatcher talking to it down around milepost NA50.00 advising them of possibly being stopped due to a train stopped ahead of them.

Eastbound ethanol train 64D thunders through Coal Grove, Ohio after stopping to resolve an issue with its lead unit.

If you guys really want to know just about how screwed we were when the ethanol train went by. No sooner than his ass end got up under the two bridges in the background. Our main target for the day came into view with not a moment to spare. Rolling towards a stop and a crew change at Star Yard in Portsmouth. A former Indiana Railroad locomotive leads empty grain train 41N along the Kenova District as it wastes no time heading west through Coal Grove.

Once we got that one and saw that a friend of ours was running a train on the CSX side of the Ohio River. We decided to head up towards Ceredo to see if we could get him bringing his train into the interchange with Kanawha River Terminal. After missing him dropping his train off. We moved on down to the former Norfolk & Western bridge that crosses over the town of Kenova and the former Chesapeake & Ohio mainline. While there, I checked to see if there were any heads up on the Central Ohio Railfan group on Facebook that I'm on. Saw that ethanol train 64A was coming towards Columbus the night before and no sooner than I read it, I heard, "64A clear Ironton east main one" on the radio. So after making a very QUICK decision on what to do. We were off to Neal, West Virginia, just south of Kenova by about four miles, to get it coming by and to record the horn.

Heading for a crew change at Williamson for the run over to Bluefield and beyond. Eastbound ethanol train 64A cruises through Neal with a pair of Union Pacific units for power.

After getting those trains, we decided to head over towards the yard at Russell, Kentucky to meet up with a friend of ours after he got off from bringing his train in. As we were coming down into the town of Russell. We passed the train that our friend had brought in after he had stopped at the east end of town. Seen slowly making its way towards a crew change. A loaded coal train slinks its way through the interlocking at RU Cabin and onto the Passenger Main Line.

Got a nice little hello as he went by.

What a better way to start off a Monday than with some Led Zeppelin?

Hey Ms. Chirp!!

Speed limits may not matter to you but the Tennessee Highway Patrolman, the Virginia State Trooper, or the West Virginia State Trooper may say otherwise.
