Not really. It is a method to make sure that different people in different areas of the country who have different needs and wants and desires and, yes, different cultures and ways of life have a more proportionally allocated voice.

For one thing, you need to stop thinking that the President is the direct representative of the people. He/She is not. The President is the Chief Executive of the Executive Branch of the government and only the head of one of the three co-equal branches. He is not supposed to be the de-facto leader, but instead the face-man or figurehead and chief of the bureaucracy along with the civilian head of the armed forces.

He is the executor of the states, not the leader of the people who do not have a "king." The states are the ones selecting him which is where the electoral college comes in. Generally EC votes are assigned based on 2 votes for each state plus an amount allocated based on number of state reps. It helps to make sure that states with small populations are not completely disregarded in the choice. Note that I am saying states, not people as in individuals.

So your vote is more to determine how your state will allocate its EC votes, not who actually becomes president.

And frankly, the Founders, who were very familiar by their system of education (classical model which is patterned off of learning through the roots of Greek and Roman civ) with Athenian direct democracy (one man, one vote), would have chosen that model had they found it to be workable, but there is a reason they did not chose it as the main or only form of government official selection in the country. We do use it for selecting our state reps who are our direct voices in government.

Simply put, they saw the reasons for the downfall of Athens and one of the them was the rise of the demagogue who had only to sway or otherwise ensure a slim 50% of the vote of the mob at each election. It is a concept called tyranny of the majority. And they wanted to guard against it to make sure that all had a voice and not just the majority at all times.

Now instead of a rule of majority it is the rule of the minority. We can't seem to get anything right.

Does'nt detract from the position being rightfully considered the most powerful. Which is a big deal. The power to kill without being held to account is rather worrying.

a reply to: ketsuko They have opinion makers and leaders on each side, supplying a few critical flashpoint incidents to create argument.
So, when creating propaganda, you try and create your own rebellion, to give natural born rebels the illusion of control.
That way, you secretly control both sides by creating an artificial war that hides away the main issue
The average joe has 3 seconds of time to devote to a given subject.

They create artifacts- image based, that will help shape that opinion
They bury hidden messages in inconsequential jokes.
They create artificial communities that recreate the rebel/majority fight across different issues.......
Millions and millions. A tidal wave of voices.
All of which use sound bites as their opinion
This is all talk and no results. they can control the masses this way.
Example....
A debate that will rage on forever with hardly any change happening.

Had these same thoughts past few weeks. Two party system is brilliant. Keeps the war below those who control it.

Damning evidence against Hillary/Trump? Oh gee that's just those darn republicans going after the democrats and vice versa. They are all on the same side. Who's side? Not the public's.

I don't know anybody in the mob.
(That I know of, and I don't want to know anybody in the mob!)

But, I think I understand what you're saying.... You're suggesting that if a person has to buy and/or build there, they "have to" go through the mob...... That's your theory/belief. Right?

I don't know about that......not at all. Just wanted to be sure I understood your meaning.

You think you don't know somebody in the mob. But you probably do, even if you thing you don't. If you're in the casino business or playing in a band for bars or whatever you have ties to the mob. Even if you are not a criminal yourself. Just like Trump.

Don't expect much to change so long as the maximum penalty for tyranny or treason is a 6 figure pseudo lobbying position with expense account.

If only we had a military who upheld their oath...

Thanks for extending your thoughts, cav, but I just am not equipped or even remotely prepared to talk about such things.

Thanks for your service, though ... You're out of the Military now, right?

Wow, you guys...this is escalating quickly to some sort of surreal level.....

I'm not in the casino business, nor am I playing gigs with a band at bars......

I am definitely not in Trump's league - it is all some other dimension as far as I'm concerned (and no, thanks, I don't want to go there). So -

thanks. I'm done with this conversation.

Democracy itself is a bull# regime anyway. No matter how many parties you have, fools will always outnumber the educated and some devious f#*/ers (aka the elite) will use them to implement their own agenda.
