In order to battle these people with obvious mental issues, use their new buzz word of the week against them when they inevitably show their own biases.

Shuts them up real quick.

When I lived in Texas in the 50's, no one, I mean no one, gave a hoot about people crossing the border. Now we are all afraid of a bunch of mexicans and gave it a name.. It is not the Mexican fault that businesses found a new slave pool to fill good jobs with cheap labor. Thank you Ronald Reagan and busting the unions.

My point from the beginning is that illegal immigration is a multi-faceted issue that applies to MORE than just Mexicans and a stupid wall on the border. My point has been that if you want to seriously talk about tackling illegal immigration, there are MORE things going on then people just hopping the border that we need to discuss and address. The idea of a wall "securing our border" is the most laughable concept you could imagine. That's why I don't believe people who utter that line. You are either extremely racist, or you are super gullible to believe the media's account of the illegal immigration situation.

There is a reason why I quoted that person from 1912. It was to show how old hat all these immigration arguments are. Even back in the early 1900's, opponents of immigration used flimsy excuses like rising crime, rape, stealing jobs, etc. None of these arguments are new and merely adding the adjective "illegal" in front of immigration doesn't magically make this issue new and exciting again. It's too easy to just cite history to prove you wrong.

I've looked at the migration of the early 1900's and understand that most of the immigrants were processed through Ellis Island. Things were, obviously, different in those days. It was more difficult to get to the US and the immigration regulations and filtering had much more to do with screening for disease than anything else.

You're right, building the wall is pointless. I live in Texas and there's no way to wall off the southern border.

The truth of the matter is that the open borders issue is pretty much a dead topic. It is..........simply, what it is. And the borders have been open for so long that at this point it really doesn't matter. The people being hurt where I live are the residential property owners who have to pay for the school systems which have been overwhelmed with migrants children. Taxes this year have been revalued up, in some cases, by as much as 150% if the local paper can be believed. And of course, there's a huge problem of bi-lingual teachers.

We have the dubious privilege of living in a time of sea change much like they did in 1912, the last time we had a great migration in the US. Where I live the "native" or "born here" population is 80% hispanic and american Indian. The anglo population is near disappeared. And what's funny is that the "native" population of the area is fed up with the open borders, but their complaint is that they're fed up with paying for it and they're fed up with watching the local school district sink into below mediocrity. But fixing the borders is seen as a dead issue here..............its far too late. Now all that can be done is fight the property valuations and they're doing that in record numbers.

You should just take solace with the fact that Mexican immigration is winding down as their country starts to develop further and further (as well as our country constantly making a point that we don't want them entering the country). Though as that winds down, as I pointed out earlier in the thread, Asian and Indian illegal immigration is increasing drastically. Though I guess it isn't politically beneficial to talk about them because the jobs they steal from Americans are white collar jobs and they tend to pay taxes.

could have sworn I posted a statistic that talked about illegal demographic makeups. If I didn't know better, this sounds awfully like distorted truth. But you wouldn't do that would you? We deny ignorance here. Right?

Question for you. What makes Burdman's data distorted and not yours? Your opinion? You both threw numbers and websites at us, I am simply to believe your's is the correct one because you say so?

Help me out Krazy (because with your closed mind, I sure the heck can't help you understand things)

I wrote a long article to try and put this into perspective for those that seem to not understand the issue or how we even got here, and since most of you have had your opinion shaped by articles written to support a political narrative(complete with statistics and quotes that have nothing to do with the issue other then having the word immigration in it). But I hit the back button and deleted an hour of writing. I'm not going to retype it.

If you worked in healthcare or construction between 1995 and 2005 in southern California you saw a 500% increase in immigrants, before it was a national talking point it was reshaping the ethnic and economic landscape south of LA and this was a driving force in bringing the healthcare debate to the forefront of politics as hospitals were crushed under the weight of the uninsured.

Walk into the welfare offices in my area and if your not brown and speaking Spanish they look at you like your in the wrong place. This is the reality of immigration in this area, call it what you want but unless you lived here and experienced it then your just another political tool pushing a narrative, which is fine since we all can fall into that category in one way or another but remember that fact because its possible that with all your statistics and memorable quotes you still really don't know what the f**k your talking about.

It's because liberals don't really know the meaning of the word racism.

They repeatedly prove this endlessly.

Why should I help you at all? You called me closed minded. So no I'm not going to help you. If you want help from me, you need to show some damn respect. Don't worry though. Burdman is capable of reading comprehension and was easily able to understand my point. Maybe try doing that? You may get some success there.

Yeah? Well, so what? Build the goddamn wall and build it now! America's illegal problem is centered on Mexicans because they constitute the vast majority of illegals within the united states. immigration.procon.org...
57% of America's illegals are Mexican nationals, so you obviously start with the largest problem, Mexico. If that's racist in your eyes, oh well, I likely won't lose any sleep over it.

Well, I don't take solace in anything concerning immigration; most of my friends here are Hispanics. Its actually the wealthy Anglos that are a problem to be avoided at all costs.

I hadn't heard about illegal Indian and Asian immigration; the story I've heard is that they're coming in in droves on H1B visas because of the shortage of skilled tech workers.

One trend you're going to see spring up however is a huge influx of Chinese. Tens of thousands, if not more, Chinese women, for a variety of reasons, have been flying to the US to birth children here for the last 15 years; anchor babies. One cited reason is so their kids can get easy acceptance to US Universities, another obviously was to dodge China's two baby limit. Kinda cool really, as various ethinic groups in the US vie for dominance, they'll all be scuttled when the Chinese overwhelm them and the US is reduced to status of a Chinese province.

No don't build a wall. It won't do anything. It's not going to stop the ones crossing from continuing to cross. Cartels will STILL be driving them across the border at our checkpoints and they will still have guys sheparding them over the border. The only thing we'll accomplish with building that stupid wall (which even Rick Perry has admitted is impossible to build a physical wall Source) is adding a MASSIVE amount of debt to the national debt OR utterly destroy all working relationships with our southern neighbor (if we can successfully force them to pay for it, which is very unlikely but its been said as an option).

I'm not so sure I agree with your slippery slope conclusion, but for the most part you are correct there. Worrying about Mexican illegal immigration is a distraction as it is winding down. The big bear that is rearing its head are immigrants from Asia and India coming over on H1B's and letting them expire. Mostly because our legal immigration procedures are so back asswards. At my job I talk to a lot of people like this, they tell me stories about how #ty our legal immigration services are. These are people working a #ty 9-5 job, making a pittance because they aren't citizens and the US makes them do things like FLY all the way back to their native country and visit the US embassy in their home country to continue their immigration applications. We charge them THOUSANDS of dollars to do this and then (with the Chineses at least) we put them on 10+ year waiting lists.

I can understand why people would just get frustrated with the process and not follow through on their applications. If anything, if we were serious about overhauling our immigration services, we'd overhaul LEGAL immigration not illegal immigration.

Rick Perry talks out of his ass. His view on illegals has closely mirrored GW Bush's, which focused on amnesty and appeasement. If the cartels find a workaround, then you staff the wall and the checkpoints with the National Guard and you treat the crossings the same way Israel treats the Gaza barrier.

The cost will be covered with NAFTA shredded and national protectionist policies in place to discourage outsourcing and bring America's factories back to America. That's really the easy part here.

Easy part? I imagine that you've failed to actually do any math to make sure the math works out and we can really reallocate those funds 1:1 to the wall. You just believe that is the case.

I cost engineering projects and analyze funding options as part of my professional career, man. In addition to my BSCE I have a minor in economics. What's your engineering financials background. Next!

Oh, and your $166 Billion figure is the DEPORTATION cost. But compare... www.fairus.org...

llegal immigration costs U.S. taxpayers about $113 billion a year at the federal, state and local level. The bulk of the costs — some $84 billion — are absorbed by state and local governments.

A single point in time investment of $166 Billion to eliminate an annual cost of $113 Billion? That's the best deal in town. Sign us up right now and let's start a good old fashioned round up.

Asians and Indians are not typically on the dole and paying cartel kickbacks or dragging goons with them from homeland organized crime. Even with all that aside what kind of dumbazz country allows 20 foreigners to stay because one of them in the family dropped a baby?

You didn't answer my question though. Have you actually done the math? I still say that is a no. I don't give a damn what your qualifications are. I'm about 95% confident that you haven't even STARTED to comb through the figures to make sure this works out financially.
