So, if a person only steals a tube of lipstick, rather than a complete makeup kit, that's a lesser shoplifting charge?

No people are just pretending to be outraged at something this stupid. You'd think the entire speech was stolen not two sentences in 17 minutes.

[SNIP] didn't even write the speech.

Yes he has a stutter and that is why he speaks so measuredly. Those pauses are not for effect, though the are often effective anyway, but they are not for effect . It is a technique taught in speech classes, to children who stutter. The pause is to say the word in their head. We have seen times when it was not always helpful. Not often.
To say he becomes a bumbling, stuttering retard is unfair, and inaccurate. Frankly something Trump might do.

With all the problems facing us, this is important somehow?

The speech was important enough to the Trump campaign to place it front and center during a prime time slot at the Republican National Convention.

She was tasked with testifying on behalf of Donald Trump's sense of "Values" , "Hard Work" , "Morals" and Integrity...but herself or her speech writers were at such a loss for describing Trump in that context that they were forced to plagiarize text from Michelle Obama's speech announcing her husband at the Democratic Convention.

If we care about our next President, best we pay attention....Trump gave her prime time and asked us to pay attention...and in testimony to his character she offered the plagiarized words of Michelle Obama...

I am paying attention...

From academic guidelines, those are not considered plagiarized phrases. Those are phrases that are considered common knowledge, well known to educated people.

Tell that to the students who lost their scholarships over plagiarism.

Manchelle didn't even write the speech.

Mrs Obama has a law degree, and knows how to write an essay. Did she have handlers and speechwriters? No doubt. But her integrity remains in tact.

Mrs Trump, on the other hand, is a former porn star who dropped out of college after her freshman year. Her speech, that she told Americans that she wrote, mostly, has Mrs Obama's unattributed words within.

We call that plagiarism.

Oh so we're down to counting seconds now? It's only baby plagiarism as it was only 60 seconds? A misdemeanor instead of a felony?

No.

I doubt it's true, but even if those couple of cliche clauses were taken from Michelle's speech by Melania's speech writers, what do you want to do? You sound so vicious! Would it make you feel better if we cut her tongue out and hang it on a stake at the DNC so they can dance around like fools and point at it? Or, how about a few days in jail.

Cliche clauses?

Vicious?

I'm sorry, but I have no response to this but to laugh.

And your other comment about putting a "lovely lady: through whatever it was you said? Look back over the past 8-20 years and then cry me a river.

Also, when Obama first became president - - he said stuff "off the cuff" - - - - and got torn to shreds for it.

He learned quick that every word out of his mouth would be scrutinized, no matter how innocent.

I'm sure he was advised to stick to script. He'd be a fool not to.

Obama is right to stick to the script on the teleprompter.

The funny part is that it's 2 sentences in a 17 minute speech.

no it isn't...

You're right, it was four sentences. Or about 20 seconds. Of a 15 to 17 minute speech.

This is her speech, eh?

It's a little less than two minutes long.

**
Also, Trump says Melania wrote the speech after she finishes and that she didn't want him to read it. Odd he would throw that little tidbit in.

It just seems like more strategic and intentional sabotage on Trump's part.

That was from the campaign trail. That was not the speech she gave at the convention. The convention speech was much longer

... the Trump campaign itself admits they "borrowed fragments"...but you declare it "Conjecture"

Show me this admission of "borrowed fragments" and I will concede that point. But if your evidence of plagiarism is a few platitudinal lines, where coincidence, sabateurs, or Cryptomnesia could be possible candidates, then guilty until proven innocent is the going rate.

29 pages on potentially plagiarizing a couple sentences?

ATS has lost its mind.

The Clinton Murders don't even get 29 pages.

Some liberals simply appear threatened by both Melania's looks and intelligence.

If this was a college essay, Mrs Trump would have received a "F" and probably suspended if not expelled, for plagiarism. It failed the computer test.

It wasn't. It was a fantastic 17 minute speech where she had four sentences, or roughly 20 seconds, where she said something close to what Michelle Obama said, which was close to what Laura Bush said.

You don't know she lifted it. You just like to accuse others because, assumedly, it makes you feel good doing so. Guilty before proven innocent is a proposition of group think.

Melania claims she wrote it herself

:-)

Oh, my - now we have more than one problem

Do try and keep up dear - this thread is way ahead of you

She said she worked on most of it. Y'all are conveniently leaving out the other 16 minutes and 40 seconds of her 17 minute speech in order to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Baloney! The phrases you mention are worded almost exactly like Michelle O's 2008 speech. You're free to make as many excuses as you want, (Hey, she only stole a little bit). The speech Malania gave last night contained whole paragraphs that were nearly identical to one delivered 8 years ago. Very indicative of the Trump 'style' - steal from others and claim it as your own, until you get caught. Then make a big deal about your theft is no big deal. The Trumps are embarrassing phonies.

Again, tell it to the students who lost their scholarships over less. She's supposed to be an example, not a loop hole!

This is plagiarism, plain and simple.

She also lied to the American people about her college education.
