How do you stop a truck like that without shooting the driver. In france it is mostly illegal for the public to have guns with a miniscule amount of people that have licenses granted to them and it is not like there is police on every corner of the street.

I agree, what comes out of ME and what is happening is horrendous but I won't let them turn our living standards into rubble. The so called moderates need to speak loudly and act positively enough to stop the murder.

In this sense I say, okay, a family won't give up their sibling to authorities after the sibling has committed an offence. But, these latest actions are atrocious. Give up the young person before so many innocents are killed.

What I am trying to say is that modernisation is going to happen. "Run with it". Don't oppose it by death or destruction. The obvious telltale signs are the ME. Now it's beginning to happen in Europe.

Do we need to see rubble like WWII before action is initiated. No, get the buggers out now and let them live in the city deserts they, by their actions as indicated above, created in the first place. Don't suck the life out of peaceful people who have built monuments and beliefs to their success only to enable them to succumb to other's beliefs.

"Get with it immigrants. Do some homework on the country you want to live in. Acknowledge the country and respect it's beliefs. By all means bring your culture but don't ignore and cast aside the local laws, beliefs and way of life because you're too up yourselves. Embrace it and get out there. Can't imagine it being easy stopping a truck that size once it's picked up speed?

It would be passed you before you had time to react, even then....what could you do?

Unless they start installing pop up metal vehicle stopping posts every 50m, not quite sure what could have been done with a truck this size.

Either way it would have been carnage. If the police had been able to take the tires out, it would have gone out of control in the crowd. No car block is going to stop a truck like that at speed.

Can't see why people find it so hard to believe it got so far ?

According to Le Figaro, the perp lived in the northern part of Nice and the security services have locked down several neighborhoods in the area. They are looking for connections to this incident, possible accomplices, but it doesn't appear that this is more than an investigation of possibilities at this time.

The points you make are all valid, but lets face it if authorities had attempted to intervene and shoot the bastard sooner the numbers dead and injured may have been somewhat less, even if they did incur some loss of innocent life in doing so. Rather a few of the people interviewed claim there was no security present. I understand that such a heavy vehicle traveling at speed is almost impossible to stop but that does not mean there should not have been some safety measures or countermeasures in place to prevent or retard such thing from happening. Especially after the Paris attacks.

It's just horrible and disgusting all around. I hear people saying "I am not surprised anymore". Really? How can a person not be effected by this? It doesn't matter how many times it happens or in what part of the world, or what device is used to terrorize and kill people. Never get used to it! And I fear this is only the beginning.

On another note, if you're a commuter in the US, specifically around the Boston area, you know it's only a matter of time until one of our major transportation hubs are hit. When that day comes I hope people are being vigilant instead of running around with their faces shoved into their stupid Pokémon app!

If this happened in the US, ass-face Obama would call for a ban on trucks.
