Perhaps you could casually ask some neighbours about the previous occupants.

Now, I'm not having a laugh but how is your guinea pig reacting to any of this?

I'm asking because I've had some experience with rodents 'watching' something across the room. It's unsettling. They stand up and their heads turn as if following the movement of an unseen, by me, entity. The worst occasion was the night my pet rat stood on the bed and did it and then dived under the covers

Next time you hear something, try letting the guinea pig come with you to investigate.

Since you moved into another home, did you have the home blessed by a local priest? I would recommend every time you move into a home, to first have it blessed, each room, then move in....

How long have you and your family been living in the home? How long was it after moving in that you started hearing noises?

You did great with your first thread.

How old are the kids? Poltergeist comes to mind. They are usually associated with teens, kind of excess energy as they reach puberty.

Thanks,

No we didn't have it blessed, didn't actually plan on it either.
I usually have bells on the doors and I'll walk through my first full day alone and tell the house " what's up" so to speak.
If it is infact a ghost, I'm totally ok with that. It can open and close doors, and move things around, Hell I'd talk to it all day if it wants to, But as soon as it starts being "mean" we'll say, then we have a problem.

I'm just not to the point that I'm 100% positive that it's a ghost.

We have been here a month ish, and the first weird thing was our very first night in the house.

Ya know I didn't even think about going to the court house. I had plans on going to the local museums and libraries, but not the court house.

Thank you!

I can't remember the name of the public office that holds those things, something about deeds or land records?

Also check the laws on selling a house to see if the seller has to inform the buyer of things such as the house being haunted!

Cool thread! I think you should check out the County Clerk and Recorders office

I think my GP has mental problems lol. He is the sweetest thing. He is my daughters and she named him Bella.
He doesn't seem to notice or act any different than normal.

You know how coal miners used to take a canary bird down into the coal mines to be used as an alarm if any dangerous gasses were in the air? If there were any dangerous gasses the canary would die and this was the signal to get back up top ASAP.

Well ...... having small rodents in a house with evil spirits.....they will kill them BUT if it is a ghost they leave them alone.

Sorry to say this but Guinea pigs work bests.....

I currently own a haunted house In Germany with both a male ghost (who committed suicide in the basement) and a few unpleasant mean spirits. The house was originally built in the late 1700's in a part of Germany known for its occult practices and worship of spirits.

Normally ghost will leave you alone unless they want to make contact.

I have a 7 year old daughter and an 11 year old son.
They are good kids, very talkative with my husband and I about everything. I was worried about my oldest with the move and him having to leave his friends but he handled it very well and gets to talk to his friends online and his games weekly, so he is content.

Not to start a panic..... but mean and evil spirits go after the children first..... adults come later. Children are easier to scare then most adults.... fear releases pheromones and it is these pheromones that makes spirits "high" ...... very addictive.

Ghost are for the most part loners.......evil spirits ALWAYS travel in groups.

It does sound like a ghost..... and normally they will leave you and your family alone UNLESS it wants to make contact. If it does don't be frightened .... it probably needs your help. Many have no idea they are dead...

And some time in the future it will show itself to you. Be prepared for it.

Good luck.

Good for sharing. I always try to debunk first. Have you checked for mice and rats, dropping and chewed up things are a big indicator. Or maybe a stray animal, though more possible the dogs would have found it, made it's way indoors.

Finding out the houses history, as mentioned, is a good start. Look into how long it has been vacant and as to why the last people who lived there left even though that;s hard to find out often times. As there's not always truthful real-estate agents, etc, neighbors may be a better bet. Also, if you can, seek someone locally who is into paranormal investigation that may even be able to volunteer to see what they can find in your house.

when we first moved in we found evidence of mice, but nothing new. We have a ton of chipmunks and squirrels in our yard and the surrounding yards, rabbits too.

we are going to do some investigating ourselves first, and as long as nothing gets out of hand, I feel that we shouldn't need to call someone. I am not too proud to make a call though if I need to.

But my thing is, I don't know of any kind of animal that can actually whistle like that, short of a stray/escaped parrot, but I haven't seen any of those either.

I bought my home new. I wouldn't buy an old house, but evidently you did, so treat it or them as one or more of the family. If you show love and compassion towards them, they may reciprocate. Who wouldn't?

Now, with that said, go get a bunch of ghost hunting equipment and make a fortune on Youtube. Make that home pay !!

I LOVE THIS THREAD.

You have a ghost! Yay! oh -- I mean, yay?

This can be an epic ghost thread! Please give us regular updates, and let us know when the ghosthunters come so we can watch. audio and video always welcome. Observation from the dogs, and even little oblivious Bella, always interesting.

Also, good idea from Berenike - when you get a chance pick the neighbor's brains to see if they know anything.

For you:

lol we are renting, but I did tell the husband that every paranormal investigating team that has their own show has had a paranormal experience that started it all, so this could be our ticket to fame and fortune

Thank you so much. I will definitely try and keep it a running thread of occurrences. Any more videos or audio that I get I will of course share too.

On a more mundane note, you might check for subsidence or see how heavy traffic affects your property - that could explain some of the noises or things falling.

I did a quick look at geological surveys for Iowa and found there were quite a lot of mines, sink holes and drillings for water. Sadly, the really 'compact' site I found whilst using the Tablet - from which I couldn't provide a link - is not showing up when I do the same search on the laptop, with which I could provide a link.

You might find there is a lot of info to wade through

Nice to see a thread that documents this experience and we'll presented. Fair play to you. Adleast this way people can offer plausible reasons and can help guide you rather than someone saying "I know it's true". GL on your journey.
