However, opening peoples/parents minds to something that does exists - - might keep them from trying to force their kid into a stereotype gender.
Wrong. Advocating that children change genders to the one they feel they 'fit into' is enforcing gender stereotypes!

Maybe it is time to stop encouraging the males to LOOK female by mutilation and chemistry and accept their body AND their mind as it is.....same for the females.
Who does that?

Ignorance by choice.
Two days after the teen's death, grieving in that stomach-punch way that only parents who have to bury a child understand, Carla Alcorn kept repeating that she loved her child.

I hate intentional obtuseness.
You know exactly what I'm saying. When YOU, meaning the pseudo psychs and their followers, continue to support the physical transformation procedures to do away with their natural body and replace it with a fake or altered one, perhaps....perhaps you are making a mistake. Perhaps you and they are missing an opportunity to discover exactly what this anomaly is all about.
Perhaps we should be telling these kids that have this chronic insistence that they are in the wrong body that they are not faulty at all and begin to help them figure out exactly what they are----body and mind.
Maybe your support should be directed outside the box of physical transformation and into the spiritual transformation of accepting a new way of just being.
Neither have I, but there are doctors/psychologists/endocrinologists who have. I'd trust their diagnosis and treatment recommendations before I'd trust yours.

Exactly. Remember Jadestar's story here on ATS? The struggles her parents went through? How they refused to accommodate their child at first, tried to reason and eventually to punish? It was only when she told her parents she would rather kill herself then to continue having to live life as a boy that they finally got her help. It was their last resort. Thank God they did it, because now she is a happy, healthy brilliant college student with a very bright future in front of her as an astrophysicist.
Oh and she took puberty blockers. It didn't seem to affect her brain negatively at all - she's brilliant.
However, early intervention is critical -- and potentially lifesaving. A staggering 45 percent of transgender people ages 18 to 24 have attempted suicide, according to the most recent National Transgender Discrimination Survey. The rate is even higher among those who are not recognized in society as their preferred gender. "It's important for parents to understand that with early intervention and family support, those statistics can plummet," says Darlene Tando, a gender therapist in private practice in San Diego. "These statistics are typically based on people who have transitioned later in life, after years of societal and family rejection."
