Actually that photo stole quite a bit from the man standing beside them....but that doesn't matter does it

Did you just say that?

Thank you for showing us your true colors. The true crime was that a white man's performance at a sport was overlooked, let's ignore the whole civil rights debacle, move to the back of the bus 'n-word'.

Why didn't they just "self identify" as US soldiers?

Why does everything have to be black this, and white that?

This is why racism will never be abolished.

Those girls don't look too enthusiastic about the whole thing, do they? Some of them look downright hesitant about raising that fist. Those are pretty weak looking fists except for the bottom right girl. Now SHE looks militant about it...lol!

I will not argue this with you. I think this is bullsh!t that they were NOT punished. A group of black women raising their fist comes across the same as a group of white men raising their arm in neo-Nazi fashion. I wouldn't like it either!

There's nothing anti-white about the original Black Panthers, the Black Lives Matter movement nor black people raising a fist, there's several other meanings to that symbol. There's one small group that uses it offensively, so who's playing semantics?

The raised fist predates the Black Panthers and it's a symbol of fighting oppression as well as a sign of solidarity. In the Black Panthers it was a symbol of black power fighting oppression, there was/is nothing anti-white about it.

en.m.wikipedia.org...

Ya it goes back long before the panthers used it.

So that would mean the swastika would be okay to use today then correct? The symbol goes wayyyy back before Hitler.

The word swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika, which means “good fortune” or “well-being." The motif (a hooked cross) appears to have first been used in Neolithic Eurasia, perhaps representing the movement of the sun through the sky. To this day it is a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Odinism

See what I mean? It would not be okay to run around with that symbol TODAY now would it? But why not? It has nothing to do with Hitler as far as its origins... Can't have it both ways.

I wasn't suggesting you were saying move to the back of the bus, but complaining about that photo IN A TIME WHEN THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE UP AGAINST is racist, whether consciously or not.

Sure, but if you have a red flag that has it with a white outline it is going to be hard to say it isn't a nazi one.

No it doesn't you're choosing to grant one small group of assholes permission to corrupt a symbol their message of hate has nothing to with and paint these young girls with that corruption. I don't give a fck if you don't argue it with me, I will continue to refute your assertions.

True, but even without a red flag, if you had that symbol in your avatar, how will it be interpreted? I'd like to see someone put a pink swastika in their avatar and see how well that goes.

I personally would look at the context, if it was a bunch of people with shaved heads and combat boots I would see it one way or if it was people practicing a religon that uses it I would see it another.

I fail to see where they did anything other than that.

I think a lot of times our preconceived notions cause us to see something as other than what was intended.

Sometimes a raised fist is just a 'woo hoo'. I do it all the time and it has nothing to do with what a couple of Olympians did on a podium 50 years ago with lowered heads while the Anthem was being played and the flag raised.

The sad reality is that most people would not look nor care at the context of it being used. They would interpret it's most recent meaning, which would be hate.

Oh poor us whites lol, the people asking for these girls to be punished are the same who defend the rights of government to use the rebel flag.

Poor right wing snowflakes

Why don't you link where you got that story from? IIRC he knew they were going to do that and had no issue with it.

I don't know much about Americas racial history, but this seems like a big fuss over nothing a mountain out of a mole hill. Feigned outrage only goes so far
