I'm so far in-land they never get here. Greensboro.....or Greensboring however you want to look at it. I forgot to mention the old ORD or Over Seas Replenishment Depot......about 144,000 men came thru my home town on their way to war. WW2 , Charlton Heston was married in Greensboro, right before he was shipped over seas for war. Married by the Magistrate. I grew up in the ORD/Bessemer section of Greensboro.a reply to: Sillyolme

Sometimes even the most innocent things can be taken as dirty. That's what I find funniest.

I'm from Oklahoma and we are probably best known as formerly being "Indian Territory" before becoming a state, the bombing of the Murrah Building and our tornadoes.

Other than that, we have oilfields, ranches, rodeos, a ton of churches (this is the Bible Belt, after all), farms, a good portion of Route 66 and some of the friendliest residents you will ever meet.

Oh, and okra. We freaking loooove our okra around here. Okrahoma...lol. My personal favorites are fried okra and pickled okra.

Originally, I'm from Nebraska...
Known for being a place no one is from.
Williams Jennings Bryan, birthplace of Dick Cheney and Gerald Ford,
Produces the largest share of the world's soybeans. University of Nebraska football mascot stuff, either a hick with a huge cowboy hat and a cob of corn in his back pocket or an inflatable or insufferable "lil red" with a sideways cap that Tom green pretended to have relations with (yeah, I'm old).

Willa Cather, John Sterling Morton (of Morton salt fame and Arbor Day, if you've ever heard of it).
Strategic Air Command. That old Cold War relic.
The Penis Of The Plains, the capital building...a very phallic building visible for miles over the flat prairie.

The only unicameral. Only one house of government that passes legislation on to the governor. One of the only awesome parts.

The Henry-Dorley Zoo...one of the best worldwide. Seriously. It is.

Edit: and sorry, Larry the Cable Guy.

Was he a Ripley...cos I am...believe it or not.

My home town is actually Mirfield where Patrick Stewart is from (Captain Jean Luc Picard). In fact my dad and Patrick Stewarts brother (Trevor) were school buddies born in the same street lived in the same street.

Forgot to add and here I will annoy people from Nottingham but they are soooo wrong :

Robin Hood's grave!...look it up, it's in Kirklees woods in Mirfield.
Kirklees Priory, where Robin Hood died.
Gadzillions of wells, fields, towns etc all named after various Robin Hood people and places. Oh we even have a seaside town called Robin Hood's Bay.
The people of Nottingham fail to appreciate that back in Robin Hood's days Sherwood Forest was enormous and spread right up into Yorkshire......why camp near Nottingham where the sheriff was anyway, a bit dumb.

How do you get a star when when I pour my guts out about the little known facts of the weird looking snowplow state?

Omaha has some good eats. The Jaipur in Omaha and the Oven in Lincoln have had some of the best Northern Indian cuisine I have ever had. Sorry, I don't want to take the train to New York just to get mugged.

Please tell me you went to the zoo. That thing is phenomenal. For a zoo.

For anyone doubting the Robin Hood claim, here's a google reference !!!:
