One thing that annoys me is the stigma with climate change denial, one has only to look at the responses in threads like these where the public is involved, but is that really a healthy or scientific way to do treat the subject? Science evolves and changes over time, new information is gained, but it feels like some people are trying to shut the door on this subject permanently by treating any opposition with ridicule.

Seems like the scientific equivalent of PC culture.

Of course the Moon landings happened, but much of the rest you refer to is pollution, which IS something we can control. Deforestation without replacement, is improper forestry plain and simple, and always has been for the last near hundred years anyway, those who don't practice forestry are just being stupid.
As for AGW, the big bad boy is CO2, a much denser gas than the air around it, so okay it mixes with air, gets blown about a bit..diffuses as they like to say, or maybe that's an assumption? it's easy to say that gases become diffuse et al, without saying that those gases velocities are all different, and CO2 is the fat boy who can't keep up with the rest, and his arse is dragging the ground. That's a bit of a conundrum then isn't it?

I don't know what to believe on man made global warming, there's too much BS and vested interests on either side for me to pick one.

Anybody who wants to take this as proof that Trump is somehow an outsider fighting against the man should watch him bowing and scraping at his recent AIPAC event.

Scientists Discover a Good Climate Surprise

Trees are emitting a lot less carbon dioxide as a result of warmer surface temperatures than previously believed, according to new research published in the journal Nature. Though they absorb carbon during photosynthesis, trees also release some carbon back out into the atmosphere in a process called respiration. Climate change was supposed to make that respiration process a much bigger problem, but this new study brings us positive climate news, for once. The New York Times reports:

Until now, most scientists have thought that a warming planet would cause plants to release more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which in turn would cause more warming.

But in a study published Wednesday in Nature, scientists showed that plants were able to adapt their respiration to increases in temperature over long periods of time, releasing only 5 percent more carbon dioxide than they did under normal conditions.
Based on measurements of short-term temperature responses in this study and others, the scientists expected that the plants would increase their respiration by nearly five times that much.

That is the problem, people don't even understand it enough. That 97% number that gets tossed around may not be accurate. But it is a majority, and world wide.

We used to think the earth was flat and had theories for such. We didnt know what the hell we were doing.

There has never been a scientific theory stating that the earth was flat. Never.

There were some goat herders claiming it was flat way back when and some religious nuts making the claims in this age.

We had a pretty damned good theory for gravity before it was generally proven. So good it led most people studying it to find out more about it and not waste time on other theories as a cash cow.

We had??? No it isn't we "had" as in a past tense. We do have (as in the present) a scientific theory for gravity( i.e. General Relativity,Theory of Universal Gravity). Scientific theories try to explain how something works.

The law of gravity states what happens, but does not explain why or how it happens.

Theory does not become law even if it is 100% explained, provable, and true it will still remain a scientific theory.
