*Performed a search and did not find this story yet, if it has please remove post, or mods relocate as you see fit.

I stumbled across this story this morning and just became angrier and angrier as I read more into it. Now I understand that racism has no place in our society, but it still rears its ugly head now and again, yet I do not believe this should be one of those cases. 6 High School seniors making a bad moral choice in which no one was injured or even put slightly in danger is not an excuse to ruin their lives.

Long story short the school was taking a year book picture and students wore shirts spelling out some pep thing. 6 girls go off on their own after and spell out NI**ER with their shirts and post the photo to snapchat. All heck breaks loose over nothing when someone puts the photo online. 6 girls get expelled for 5 days. Now the know-it-all public wants harsher punishment and the principal to resign.

The Photo:

Fox News Report

[snipped]

When did we get so far away from teaching to or learning from our mistakes and just going straight for as much blood and punishment as possible?

Since when is someone's life and livelihood a commodity to be fought over because someone became offended?

Does anyone agree that they deserve harsher punishment? Why?

I agree that some people seem to be over-reacting a bit to this, but what an absolutely stupid thing for these girls to do.

What made them think this was funny or acceptable?

Rebelling, typical teenagers. Then again the white guilt pressure is on hot and heavy, while this is wrong I don't think being expelled is the answer, perhaps transfer them to a predominatly black school and service with their darker skinned counter parts to get a real education and grasp on what is really going on outside of BLM and FB and all the BS on the news about the grammies and everything else.

In this day and age you would have to be incredibly naïve or incredibly ignorant not to realize the $hit storm that would follow something like this.

FAIL all the way around.

WTF were they thinking?

I couldn't care less about this. It's only a story because someone was dumb enough to take a picture. Without the picture this is something that would have not been addressed at all or handled within the school and wouldn't have gotten any further than that. The fact that it's all young white girls makes it extra offensive I'm sure.

They deserve to be suspended, not expelled.

Principle resigning seems outrageous, but will probably happen because 2016.

I think that is hilarious and indicative of how most white people that can feed themselves feel about the people of Ferguson.

shock value is shock value. there are a lot of really questionable pictures on the internet and this just happens to touch on a PC hotspot. they pulled a juvenile stunt and were duly reprimanded. no need to lynch anyone.

now, if it had been the entire school wearing white hoods and spelling out "death to all (insert ethnicity here)" then i could understand this degree of outrage.

We know what they did is wrong, the principal agreed and suspended them for 5 days.

I know it is a completely different time period but late 90s when I was in high school people got into full on fistfights and would be screaming much worse at each other the whole time and get a day or two of in-school suspension. Only repeat offenders would ever get an out-of school suspension let alone an expulsion.

Why do these girls, most with scholarships to good colleges, who may never have done anything wrong before this (if they were bad kids I would imagine them not going to good schools and having scholarships), deserve to have their lives RUINED by this? Thankfully it has not happened yet but it it does I would be more outraged.

I guess my main gripe with the whole story is just how quickly people jump for the harshest punishments possible and not for any alternative, classes, therapy, spend a period with the guidance councilor every day for a month. SOMETHING.

are you actually using a picture of six high school students to judge an entire demographic?

that speaks volumes for your own judge of character.

Maybe they wanted to spell nibbler but one of them was sick?

On a serious note, they are kids, kids do stupid stuff. As far as I can see it was a joke and some people which don't get black humor (no pun intended) blew it out of proportion. I also don't get why they have to drag the principal in it.

And last but not least, those people which are backing the petition are probably racist themselves. It's always easy to hide yourself if you can point a finger at someone.

Lol no I'm using the fact that 90% of people I know are racist. Like normal white suburban society thinks this is funny.

I do strongly disagree with what these kids did. It's ignorant to say the least. But if I counted every time I was called honky, whitey, cracker, and other slurs in my life, as well as how many slurs I've heard on TV, and in the movies in my life, it would be at least 6 digits. If this had been done by several black girls, it wouldn't even be news.

ETA: It's a fake, as stated above and below.
ETA2: OK. Maybe not a fake.
