Hmmm

Seems to work fairly well, except that ATS doesn't handle semi-transparencies so great... the blending out looks somewhat pixelized.

But I think I can live with that.

I actually think it's a stroke of genius on SO's behalf.

He may be looking at more storage and bandwidth but it could make people take the time to write better threads and replies and therefore increase the quality of the content.

Or maybe I just always assume there is an ulterior motive with people these days and he was just being nice.

I am getting very cynical in my old age...

I have a feeling SO is going to regret allowing these super long avatars.

They're graphics heavy and use up a lot more space.

At some point, I'm betting he's going to have to set a limit... or change the settings so that the avatar backgrounds don't repeat (which is why most people are going with the longer avatar option in the first place).

your transparent avatar is 70X100.

ETA: and it's not transparent.

Swap it out for the 170X240 one and you're in business.

not yet no. I could use your current background and just fade it to red and then make it massively tall so it doesn't repeat, though.
