None? It depends?

But that's a serious, loaded question in this social climate.

Did even one MSM network call this shooter a terrorist? Or scramble to define his religion? Especially once the description of the shooter came out? Let's be honest and say no.

As the dictionary definition tends to go to political or social motivation, governing or resisting government, instilling fear and submission. The legal one, violent acts dangerous to human life that violate state or federal law.

The probable answer to your question is that they've redefined yet another word to fit a narrative. And are looking for excuses to support their narrative and not distract from it.

And it's a double standard to the nth degree as well, pretending to know and rushing to judgement on the motivation or root cause in one case and not the other based on coincidental factors.

A good followup questions is what's the difference between warriors and terrorists but that doesn't seem to relate here, though depending on motivations, some mass shooter could perceive he (or more rarely she) there is a war going on.

Mass shootings are a real issue.
Terrorism is a real issue.
Acts of war are a real issue.

But the lines between these can get very blurry in some minds. And who really knows what is in those minds.

If i recall, the cops on the scanner said the same thing. They kept referring to his weapon as "The AK"

This article says he was armed with an "AK style weapon."

Link

That quote is from an NBC news reporter. Seems like the type to call my samsung galaxy "An iphone-like device".

I was listening to the scanner feed last night through the event, with events unfolding (unusually) on a non-encrypted channel. Officers who got a look at him, and the officers who were watching him through the building's CCTV, all described the firearm as an "AK" or "AK47".

Motivation is an odd one with this. Most of the lone gunman nutjobs have concentrated on shooting the easy targets, then surrendering or killing themselves when they first encounter any significant resistance. This guy was acting as if he intended to survive and escape, taking on and repelling the police.

Apparently, the items he carried in were found to be harmless and he'll be in court in Monday.

After Dear was taken into custody, police turned their attention to inspecting the “items” the shooter left inside the clinic, officials said. By Saturday morning, police had processed all of them and said they were not a threat, although officials did not elaborate on what the suspicious packages contained.

Jail booking records indicate Dear is due in court on Monday.
..
"The scene will remain active while explosives officers investigate the other items. Buckley says the scene is complicated and will 'take hours, possibly days.' "

Finding it interesting that Dear seems to have no online presence wharsoever, maybe an obit for father 2002 and that's about it.

Past incidents like this one would see all manner of info 5 minutes after name was out.

Not with this one!

Not saying but speculating - sure makes motivations malleable to what ever meme desired.

Plum weird IMHO.

my mother who is 66 has exactly 0 online presence.
i have multiple co-workers that are the same way.
See any person trying to live off the grid.
See most homeless people.
See certain types of criminlas.
See anyone with a job that requires opsec.

never understood why not having an online presence meant anythng or was viewed as odd.

What does "no online presence" mean, anyway? I don't use social media and if people looked up my real name, I"m not sure it would map to my presence online (at ATS and a couple dog forums). I definitely have an online presence, but it's openly not tied to my name.

Couldn't this guy be a member of Stormfront or some other forum and not be detectable?

Point being most if not all mass shooters have had some kind of online social media.

I agree with examples you gave of some that may not.

Other places I have perused for info have folks who've used paid identity sites and are not showing much of anything either.

Those sites use public data such as criminal/civil records, property records, phone data etc.

Normally one has to work to avoid showing up on those sites.

I'm just waiting for all the conservatives to start claiming he's just "mentally ill" and that this has nothing to do with his Christian/Conservative/Republican beliefs and allegiances.

While we're waiting for more info, everything we do know seems to be suggesting that this is exactly what he is - a conservative terrorist.

Where are you getting details about his religious and political ideologies?

Off gridder, why come on grid to shoot up shopping area and hole up in PP office - makes no sense.

Homeless, have to be for a long time to not show on paid identity sites - like decades with no interaction with judicial system.

Criminal, would show in public records.

Job requiring opsec - yup!

And adding, long term mental asylum as possibility.

Another point revolving around the lack of data, paid or not is the fact that if one has bank account, credit card, phone, a dress etc. you will show up.

If none of these, then where do you get funds for an AK-47 which runs $350-$800 depending on pedigree.

This is quite curious.

I'm guessing any trace of him on social media was deleted by authorities before they released his name.
They withheld his name for an unusually long time after capture.
I think that will be the new normal after the reporter shooting that was posted to Facebook.
IF he had strong opinions on an issue everyone in the world would know, and they don't want a trial by media.
Just a guess

Edit to add.
That doesn't mean they deleted his ATS or similar chat room comments but that will come out. The average person can only search the shooters name.

I can somewhat agree but it requires much more than scrubbing FB to get to where this seems.

Maybe more info will come out from someone who knew the guy.

most of the mass shooters have been much younger. This guy is in his 50's. I'm in my 50's and well quite a few of the people I know my age don't really get into the internet much.
ya know what's sadly ironic, the police officer that was killed...
I'm reading that he was a part time pastor.
I'm also reading that all of the republican candidates are oddly silent about this event. so strange, the politicians are usually making some kind of statement proclaiming their condemnations when these kinds of things happen, aren't they.

I'm sure this has already been posted, but I find it interesting that the director of this particular PP was also part of the CMP videos that were released.

Fingers are wetted and awaiting a breeze!

Like I said if one owns property, has phone, bank account, any inter action judicial system, employment etc. You will show up. Not to show up takes purposeful effort and/or official intervention.

This makes it interesting because if one has belief this was anti PP action - those folks are usually loud and vociferous both on and offline and leaving online data would follow ideas of current go leadership. To wipe it makes no sense if it were the case.

Conversely gov cannot invent an online presence either without leaving a tell this far from identity disclosure.

If "Dear" himself worked hard, and one has to, to remain out of normal databases then why break opsec?

If this was run of the mill anti PP or other normal crime most people would have some kind of history show up one way or another.

From a conspiracy perspective I find the lack of data very interesting.

Idle wonderment, is it a WPP thing gone awry.

I don't know, think I found where he was married, name of wife, where's he's lived, ect....
that's if that was his dad's obit.
there's even a possibility that he may have been connected to a charity group that feeds the poor, but well, I ain't sure if it's the same one so I am keeping rather quiet on what I find. people don't usually like it when media shows up in their front yard for no reason. so well.....let them do their own research.

No and no. They released his name fairly quickly after he was arrested. I wasn't expecting to learn any information about him until the next day or Monday.
