They were both wrong. But there are hundreds of targets that Russia could have hit that would have paralyzed DC. There were a handful of targets missiles from Turkey could have hit.

So we should just say, "OK do what you want so it doesn't lead to war". I've heard that somewhere before.

Under UN law, that China recognizes, man made islands do not extend a twelve mile limit, or territorial waters. Naturally formed islands are a different story.

7. Artificial islands, installations and structures and the safety zones around them may not be established where interference may be caused to the use of recognized sea lanes essential to international navigation.
8. Artificial islands, installations and structures do not possess the status of islands. They have no territorial sea of their own, and their presence does not affect the delimitation of the territorial sea, the exclusive economic zone or the continental shelf.

www.un.org...

You can build all the islands you want in your own EEZ, but whether they're built there or anywhere else they don't have the status of islands. These islands are outside the Chinese EEZ.

The Law is worthless if someone like China,Russia or the US act against it.

International Law is only Worth something is these Three agree to comply. In this case China are not. And there is nothing the US can do about it even if they do sail past without a happening. The Island will be there and manned by the Chinese non the less after.

Utter nonsense and you must know this? If someone built an artificial island 5 miles of the Yorkshire coast, would you expect the British to sail round it by 12 miles? And also give a foreign country leverage by doing this? Have a word with yourself

Oh, well in that case just give China all of the South China Sea and whatever else they want. Since apparently they're right. Just let them do what they want.

China wont back off. They own the island that they built and have manned it.

The Island will still be there after the Us pass by. And the Island will still be manned by the Chinese. It will still be a future Strategic island for the Chinese.

That's another story ... however this does not exclude their right to extend their territorial waters. And certainly does not give the US any claims to enter it, even if outside their 12 mile limit. If I recall correctly, Cuba is well outside the 12 mile limit ... my good friend. This you know.

This move by the US is "political" in nature, and has to do with BRICS and Syria. They are intimidating China, because they know China will back down. They're "peaceful" in nature, and will not escalate this to a war. It is a double jeopardy case, the intimidation will give the US the ability to "sanction" China, if China reacts. While a non-reaction by China, will give them a hard time to the oil in the Area, which is the actual trump cards.

China should take you on it, and escalate it to a war without hesitation. The US is mentally and militarily bankrupt. They're spread to thin, and any war will put them in the same position as the axis powers in WWII. They'll lose.

A cleverly placed undersea nuke would cause a bit of a tsunami if they tried to base aircraft there.
Now that we are remanning bases in vietnam and the Phillipines at THEIR behest it really isn't going to work out for them.

Are the US going to sail to that Island and take it away from the Chinese?

If not, China have just taken more Space to them selves non the less.

Building islands does NOT extend territorial waters. If that was the case nations would be building islands off nations they were unfriendly with and claiming everything in between.

Your argument is irrelevant anyway, because even within the 12 mile limit foreign nations are allowed to travel through, even with warships.
