Utter nonsense and you must know this?

The artificial islands are a nonsense ... the fact, that they CAN build them, means their landmass expands this far. And their landmass, gives them the right to extend their territorial waters. Even more to the point, the oil in question is on CHINESE landmass ... period. It's theirs.

The Chinese should stop allowing you to push them around.

This has nothing to do with the US pushing China around and everything to do with international law. I already proved that man made islands do not extend the EEZ or anything else, no matter how many times you claim it does.

China recognizes that law and is ignoring it. Their EEZ extends no farther than any other EEZ. The landmass has nothing to do with territory, unless it's above water. You don't get to claim territory based on where the underwater landmass is.

Hey
Zaphod,

Whats your take on all this? With this and the Russians saying they are going into Iraq now? Whats really at play here?
Do you think this is a build up of another world war or just saber rattling and business as usual for the industrial military complex?

I'd really like your take on these current event's and possibly you could open a thread on what you perceive is going on lately?

Thanks!

I'm well aware of that, but the big difference was that a launch from Turkey would leave them plenty of time to shoot back, where a launch from Cuba wouldn't.

The US has treaty obligations in the area, and no one else has the ability to do this without starting a war. China has already proven they'll shoot at other nations in the area.

So China illegally claims thousands of square miles of sea and territory, and the US is an idiot for sailing through the area legally. Got it.

As much as i generally agree with your points, this is untrue. The MRBM placed in Turkey could reach Moscow in under 5 minutes.

One fact many do not know is the US packed up and removed their missiles from Turkey as a direct result of the crisis. Kruschev could have probably saved some face is this was made public at the time.

Russia has been trying to rebuild their military and are using this as an opportunity to get real world training in. Deployments and long range flights are good training, but don't get near real combat. They don't have anything close to Red Flag like the US does.

China is going for the next superpower. Right now they're a strong regional power, but they're working hard to go beyond that.

Does that mean we have to show how tuff we are?

No, I know something much better - we could bend over, how's that? China only responds to "tough."

What has China done in the last 50 years except sell us garbage that breaks?

You act like China has been funding terrorist around the globe for geopolitical regime change.

Oh wait that is the US.

Warmongering is so American. Look in the mirror and pat yourself on back when WW3 starts over a damm 12NM buffer zone request.

Yes they could, but that five minutes would be relatively distraction free, where missiles out of Cuba could have paralyzed the US government.

They were both idiotic moves at horrible times, but the advantage was with Russia for the sheer amount of damage they could have done.

You really should bother reading the history of this region. China has a history of firing on other countries in international waters they claim, or other nations EEZs, blockading areas near the islands, illegally working resources from them and then using force to prevent other nations from doing anything about it.

That's pretty much the whole argument in the Arctic between the US, Russia, Norway, Denmark and Canada.

Wonder how many billions were spent on making such islands and turn it into an airforce base?

Chinese could have done things on the cheap. Just line up few old cargo ships, tie them up real strong, give them a balance somewhat and bring in pre-built airstrip sections, lock them together via giant hooks etc. and there you go a useable take off and landing strip ready. End of the strip a 90 degree connection that goes to other cargo ships where you base crew lives, planes park and repair work takes place.

In the event of war, this expensive island would be bombed out in hurry anyways and so will be this airstrip made on cargo ships lined up.

Would be good to have inputs from Pro's in the field like Mr. Z. Too much money being spent on weapons and that does not jive well with the peace of mind.

1/2 of you in this thread scare the Sh$$ out of me. We are going to have WW3 because apparently war is the only option to solving anything.

I am so tired of America breaking nearly every international law, funding terrorist for regime change so we can build another damm base, and then telling the world that everyone has to do exactly as America says.

Hitler may have been right. Nationalism will never end because most people simply ignore the hypocrisy.

America the land of hypocrisy, NSA and International war criminals.

Yep, and it applies to all of them too. They're doing the same thing there China is doing in the South China Sea. They found major resources and suddenly everyone wants it.

That is what someone suggested for a bridge up in the Bering Sea. Take a couple retired aircraft carriers and tie them end to end.
