In fairness to Daily Mail they had just copied what was coming out at the beginning, every source, Reuters, BBC were saying the same. Although Daily Mail do sensationalise stuff they also are usually good with breaking news and they have done a couple of good under cover stories recently. They have just helped to get a British man arrested for being a go between with getting money to ISIS.a reply to: DigitalDisaster

UPDATE:
this is what the newspapers say right now (1 pm local time)

Around 9 am this morning, a masked and armed individual tried to enter a military base near the city of Namen, Belgium.
The attacker rammed the barrier at the entrance of the base with his car and opened fire.
Base scurity returned fire. According to local newspaper "L'Avenir" , 12 shots where fired.

The vehicle (discribed as a dark colored Ford Escort, but we can clearly see it's a Ford Focus) was found later, heavily damaged near the town of Belgrade. Bomb disposal unit arrived at the scene shortly after, but no explosives where found.

Shortly after, it was confirmed that a suspect had been arrested.

www.hln.be...

La Dernière Heure (local paper) confirmes tha suspect acted alone, his identity and motives are as of yet still unknown.

Again, sorry for the shoddy English, as i had to quickly translate this from Dutch.

Update: an official statement will be made around 3 pm local time.

The article claims that the vehicle was packed with explosives yet upon further reading "the Belgium defence minister Tony Langone said 'bomb disposal experts' were en route, as the abandoned car was thought to be packed with explosives."

That is sensationalist jounalism at it's finest and typical of the Daily mail.

by the way, just so you know, Tony Langone is just a spokesperson for the Belgian ministry of defense, the actual minister's name is Steven Vandeput

well, i hope not, but it is quite possible.
there have been a lot of terrorist threat warnings here lately and
lots of people here seem to think that the defecation might hit the oscillation some time soon.
especially now with all the refugees coming in to Europe...

You really need to take a deep breath and calm yourself. This is probably the tenth thread I've seen from you in the past week about Muslims and terrorists.

I'm still as calm as can be right now, friend

but it does not hurt to be well informed, right?
after all, all of this is starting to get quite close to (my) home lately...

Sorry to tell you I'm very calm. Just awake and alert to what is happening in Europe as it is on the doorstep of my Country. Actually the really worrying thing is how the msm are trying to hide a lot from European Countries and UK and how government are trying to make it against the law to even raise concerns. If this was happening in any other part of the world USA, Canada etc I'm sure we would be hearing mass hysteria! a reply to: Talorc

So I noticed ,well I just heard that they labeled the guy as to be known by the police with mental issues. .

He probably taken away by the fact what's happening in the world and tried to make a statement on how he was feeling about all this.. so no terrorist but someone with psychological problems. .

The gun he used ,probably a watergun and the bomb a bag of firecrackers. . He's lucky that he didn't get shot by those six hundred paratroopers stationed there...

Case solved thread closed

You must be disappointed. He was not armed, he had no explosives, and above all he is not a muslim. How sad, isn't it ?

Just wondering how he got hold of explosives if he wasn't part of something larger?a reply to: nonspecific

Just fill the car full of jerry-cans of petrol. Or maybe somebody made some home made explosives like they did in the UK.
Gas cylinders like Oxygen and Acetylene?

Steal explosives from a worksite? That happened in France.

So, the official statement:

The attacker is a 32 year old man (no name given) , living in the city of Namen, Belgium. He acted alone.
In 2010 he wanted to join the Belgian paracommando himself (the base houses around 600 paratroopers).
His motives are still unclear as of yet.
No weapons or explosives where found. For now, there are no reasons to believe the incident was terrorism related but, the article states, further investigation will determine if this is really the case.

www.hln.be...

and sorry for the delay guys, but i had to go take care of some personal stuff first.

"Police detained a suspect three hours after the attack following a manhunt which also involved helicopters, said prosecutor's spokesman Vincent Macq. He said no motives could be excluded but that evidence did not immediately point to an attempted terror attack.

It is someone who was not on any of our radical lists, he his unknown by our security services, and I want to add that for the moment nothing can let us say that we are facing a terror lead.

Belgium has been one of the largest recruiting bases per capita for foreign fighters traveling to join the Islamic State extremist organization, and authorities have openly expressed alarm about what the recruits might do if they return.

A preliminary report this month from a U.N. Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries estimated 500 people have been recruited from Belgium to fight in Iraq and Syria".

north.mycci.net...

First of all can I just say that I have only just seen the update from this afternoon. I do have a life as well! You will see from my original source I didn't use Daily Mail as a source, I also used RT.com, BBC, Express, and THEN Daily Mail which more or less reported one what the others had said. They all reported on a suspected bomb and an armed man, as did the local news in Belgium. I didn't add these things to make it a more interesting article!

I said I would apologise NOT to you but to the person I was conversing with, however, until further information comes out and in view of the extracts above, I will be reserving my Judgment, and see what further news comes out about the man.
The stabbing in Ikea in Sweden was very vague like this and it is common knowledge (but not on msm) that the woman was actually beheaded by a failed asylum seeker. www.prisonplanet.com...

Not that I asked for a personal apology but that attitude is to be expected from a daily fail believer.

Keep spewing.
