www.dhnet.be...

This is just breaking on BreakingNews and BBC. The only article I could find is the one above but unfortunately I can't read what is says.

Snippet on BBC says "Masked man attempted car bomb attack on Belgian army barracks in town of Flawinne".

Sounds terrorist related I would say seeing as the target has been a Belgian army barracks. Is this the start I wonder of things to come in Europe? I will update as more news comes in.

Just saw this on RT.com www.rt.com...

Explosives were found in car so this could have been really serious if it wasn't for the high security at the army barracks. Not clear whether he is still on the run but he has been shot.

Probably because it's considered the "capital" of the EU. S&F!

This is now appearing in Daily Expresswww.express.co.uk... It appears from this he is still on the run so no doubt armed. Saying unclear what the motive of the attack might be. I don't think it takes much imagination to think what the motive could be! Sleeper cells in Europe, probably!a reply to: MrCrow

I think the most likley motive is that the perpetrator is an insane indiviual with a death wish or grudge.

A single individual attacking a military base it broad daylight and failing miserbally does not sound like an organised attack by a "sleeper cell" to me.

I am not saying he was not part of an organisation just that the level of planning seems a little weak in my opinion.

Why not go at night? why not use a bloody great 4x4 instead of what looks to be a beat up ford focus? Why not have several vehicles simultainiously? why not drive it into something unguarded like a school or shopping centre that would instill real terror in the population?

It just looks amuaterish too me.

I hear what you are saying, it could just be one of the "lone wolf attacks" we seem to hear about daily. I have no doubt it will be someone who has been radicalised though. However, in the Guardian article which has been posted above it does say a plot was foiled earlier in the year. Just because these people are terrorists doesn't mean they have brains!!! IMO you can't have many brain cells to start off with to want to do any of these terrorist related activities. Why would anyone want to cause terror to anyone, just don't get it!a reply to: nonspecific

Do you have any actual reasoning to believe that they have been radicalised, and by this I assume you mean they are a fundemental muslim?

I ask only because it seems that everyone expects this to be the case now when acts of terror and lone madmen were happening a long time before the "War on Terror" in Europe.

It takes only one in a suicide attack, if that is what this was supposed to be......
Let's hope the cops can keep their cool and, if possible, don't kill the "perp" so they can question him..............

If it was a sucicide attack then why did he run away instead of detonating the bomb?

As you say it would be great if they could manage to capture him but that could be problematic. I imagine they will kill him, that way they can say what they like.

Last week when there was the attack on children in Sweden and I read it was an area where there were mainly muslim/refugee children I sad it would probably be some far right extremist. Why did I say this because with the current situation in Europe and ill feeling from some I would think it was the first conclusion to jump to. I was in fact right.

For the same reason now seeing as there have been numerous failed Islamic plots throughout Europe and seeing as this is on an army barracks and not a refugee centre I think it is the logical conclusion to jump to. The Guardian above says "Belgium foiled what authorities called a plot to attack police in January, killing two men in one of several raids against an Islamist group that officials said had been about to launch large-scale attacks". I may be putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5, if I am I will apologise and say I was wrong.reply to: nonspecific

From what I understand any one with an internet connection and cash can build a home made bomb although this may be an old wives tale.

I too thought about the fireworks(It is approaching Bonfire night, november the 5th here in the UK), I know that a lot of fireworks are made in France but I think you would need quite a few!

I did not mention it though as it sounds a little preposterous!

Perpetrator or not , attention seeker or just a mad man.. he surely stirs the place up..

There's allot of resistance in Europe at the moment by the coming of so many refugees. If some lunatic tries to unchained some new ristance to attack because of his personal discontent about what's happening at the moment ,others could follow his actions and before you know it Europe wil be divided.

First we have to hear what kind of nationality this guy has and motives ..

And what kind of bomb do they find is also important to know what they dealing with?

I live in Belgium.
As far as i can tell from reading and watching local media, the bomb disposal unit is at the scene, but they have towed the car to a safe location.
It's not sure yet that there is an actual explosive device inside the vehicle.
12 shots have been fired, no wounded.

UPDATE: a suspect has been arrested.

It was just a theory on my part, but from what I can see, the car in an open field - or something similar - from which the perp, if he detonated the bomb, wouldn't reach his objectives? (just another theory on my part).

I still hope the cops/security forces get him alive so they can squeeze some intel out of him (if there's any) instead of worrying what to tell the media.............

It has not yet been confirmed that there were explosivies in the vehilce.

As it stands it could be anything from a highly organised islamic terrorist attack(unlikley) to an enraged husband who's wife has been having an affair with one of the soldiers(also unlikley).

It is so easy for everyone to jump to conclusions these days, the MSM is working very effectivley right now.
