The article claims that the vehicle was packed with explosives yet upon further reading "the Belgium defence minister Tony Langone said 'bomb disposal experts' were en route, as the abandoned car was thought to be packed with explosives."

That is sensationalist jounalism at it's finest and typical of the Daily mail.

It has now been confirmed that there are no explosives inside the vehicle.

sorry I just saw he has been arrested. It does say on two sources he was known to Police. If that is the case and does end up be a known terrorist questions should be asked why he was even free to be roaming about. It was the same with the man on the train in France. They knew him and he was supposed to under surveillance but still managed to do what he did. I even wonder whether they will let people know the truth.a reply to: anxiouswens

The opening line from the Daily mail article reads.

"A masked gunman today drove a vehicle packed with explosives into a military base in Belgium."

As you say the other articles said it was suspected but this is simply misleading journalism.

indeed, local media never said anything about gunmen.
it was one masked individual, and it was suspected there could have been explosives inside the vehicle but this was confirmed not to be the case a couple of minutes ago.
never trust the daily mail...

The problem is that many in the UK DO trust tabloids like this and take everything as gospel.

Regardless of what the outcome is a vast proportion of the UK population will remember this as another terrorist attack and this simply fuels hatred and xenophobia but that's another thread

The Daily Mail also claimed that the attacker drove through the perimeter fence and towards the barracks.

Al other sources say it attempted to drive though the barrier?

i see

for some reason we don't really seem to have that problem over here.
then again,we don't really have the type of tabloids you might find in the UK/US.
over here they almost exclusively deal with the entertainment industry.

apparently it says on BBC it was information that came from locals. Same source says they have evacuated Police Academy so don't know what all that is about unless there was some intelligence. www.bbc.co.uk... reply to: nonspecific

No,he did actually break through the perimeter.
As far as i can tell, the picture shown was taken before the bomb disposal unit had towed the vehicle to a safe location.

basically, the idiot crashed his car into the barrier and expected he would be fine, i guess
