Isaiah 40:22

It is he that sits on the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in:

'circle' (חוּג chûg) denotes "a circle, sphere, or arch"

Job 26:10
He has compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.

The word rendered "compassed" (חוּג chûg), means to describe a circle - to mark out with a compass; and the reference is to the form of the horizon, which appears as a circle, and which seems to be marked out with a compass.

Job 26:7
He stretches out the north over the empty place, and hangs the earth on nothing.

over the empty space — Hebrew, על תהו, gnal tohu, over the vacuity, or emptiness; the same word which Moses uses, Genesis 1:2

Perhaps you could elaborate on the moral of the flood?

Don't piss off God perhaps?

It could be foreshadowing a future event that was hard to describe.

Remember the second part of the story is the rainbow that promises us that God Loves us enough not to destroy us again. If it's not a real event maybe the rainbow is as important as the flood.

The age of Christ comes like a flood of God's Love drowning everyone in his unconditional love, as we enter the age of Christ.

Origins of language

The origins of human language will perhaps remain for ever obscure. By contrast the origin of individual languages has been the subject of very precise study over the past two centuries.

There are about 5000 languages spoken in the world today (a third of them in Africa), but scholars group them together into relatively few families - probably less than twenty. Languages are linked to each other by shared words or sounds or grammatical constructions. The theory is that the members of each linguistic group have descended from one language, a common ancestor. In many cases that original language is judged by the experts to have been spoken in surprisingly recent times - as little as a few thousand years ago.

Haven't you people ever heard of metaphor?

How about allegory?

Parable? Surely you've heard that one.

Or are you just giving a straw man the business? You construct an argument against a false representation of what you want others to think all Bible-believers are--literalists.

Well, using your own logic .... then:

Mary was not really raped by God, it was just a metaphor.

Jesus was not really the Son of God, hell, he never claimed to be! But that is OK, it is just an allegory.

The great flood, tower of bable, in fact, the entire Creation Story was just a Parable.

So nothing really happened and the Bible is just a well meaning book of stories.

Come on, you can't claim these things when it suits you and then claw peoples eyes out when the dispute the other bits.

Or can you tell us the secrets, handed down generation to generation to separate what is real and what is just a story.

Round doesn't necessarily imply spherical though.... My coffee table is round, but it's also flat. So there's that to consider...

actually he did...

And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

HE didn't ever claim to be God though

This is true...

Personally I don't think they even had a clue... I was just giving the reference

If the Bible is BS, then the Chinese written language is BS, as the story of Genesis up to and including the Tower of Babel, is encoded into the original Chinese written language. Further, the Miao people (also known as the Hmong, IIRC) have passed the Genesis story down by oral tradition for thousands of years, and still get the Biblical names phonetically more correct than not.

Do you believe in God? The ones written about were honest men. Men who swore what they witnessed Christ do and say. They were highly intelligent as well. I would give that the benefit of the doubt if I wanted to know the truth. And I have done that, and found it is all true. Even after all of that, it still is a very hard path to continue following. The world has so many traps, and so many lies.

I dunno man, have you ever watched the Highlander movies and TV show? There's the age old line from that song..

"Do you really wanna live forever...?"

I think I'd get pretty bored living how Noah lived for 500 years. I think farming would get old after the first one hundred! LOL

Well, I'm sure there are many faceted proofs that for the most part, the Bible is BS. But this Element in the Bible takes the Cake by far

"Tower of Babel" I mean, Come on. All peoples of the Earth are living in the same location? and happen to build a Tower to the heavens and pisses God off, so he changes everyone nationality and language

Hell he doesn't even change their location...They all seem to find their way...Its Amazing

It takes 3000 plus years and google translate and we're back where we started

Wonder how God will feel if we start building that Tower again?

There was a couple of times we were very low in population, any where from 1000 to 10,000, so not too far fetched....

Maybe it is a parable and not to be taken literally.

i.e. a story that is exaggerated or fantastic that teaches something.

In this case, one scholar, Buckminster Fuller believes that it represents the story about when the Phoenicians established and put into use the phonetic alphabet to a multitude of cultures that were using photographic writing.

"It was a big change from ideographs to the Phoenicians' phonetic spelling, wherein each letter is a single sound - having no meaning in itself - and whereby it took several sounds to make a whole word and many such words to make any sense—i.e., a sentence. This is the historical event that Ezra Pound says coincides with the story of the Tower of Babel. Pound says that humanity was split into a babble of individually meaningless sounds while losing the conceptual symbols of whole ideas—powerful generalizations. You had to become an expert to understand the phonetic letter code. The spelling of words excluded a great many people from communicating, people who had been doing so successfully with ideographs."
- Critical Path, Buckminster Fuller
