After the prequels I think Lucas not being involved can only be a good thing.

Maybe they did a thunderclap? But yes it reached the top from people laughing at them.

All the clone troopers. Yes.

The Emperor was a human centered racist.

And made aliens second class citizens or slaves.

I would not place too much faith in this movie, if Lucas is your issue. The main reason people complained about the last few films, was because of how disneyfied they were. That is the phrase I most often use to show my lack of appreciation for them. They LOOK lush, vibrant, and well rendered. They FEEL lifeless and corporate, like a business decision in technicolour.

That is what I expect from this new movie when it comes out, and anything Disney does to this franchise. I hope to be surprised, but I expect to be vindicated.

ah, ah, ah... No mockin' fanbois...

Fanboi here.

I'm such a star wars geek. The summer the first one came out in '77 I must have seen it fifty times. Paper route money was such a wonderful thing. ...and every weekend when school started. I had such a crush on Carrie Fischer.

Only one theater in town when I was a kid, so many of the really good movies that summer and fall never made it here, Star Wars was held over for so long...

Boycott a movie because *gasp* black people? Some people really need to grow the hell up.

Disney didn't own the franchise when the prequels were done.

Agreed, with much more lens flare.

I expect it's the kind of movie that will entertain me while I'm in the theater, and then be completely forgotten moments after it's over. Just like all the Avengers movies, there's no real substance in the story so there's nothing to really stick with you. No greater lesson to be learned.

But I do love me some lightsabers

I put the blame firmly on Lucas shoulders. Remember how his tinkering and special editions made the original three progressively worse. (we all know who shot first). I don't expect the new film to be great but I hope to be surprised.

I know that.

What I am saying, is that even then the franchise was awash with disneyfication, and it had not even been sold to them at that point. Personally I think it was all part of a long term plan to have Disney buy the franchise. It was Lucas saying to Disney "hey, come on guys... I pretty much wrecked the greatest movie franchise in the known universe in just such a way that you could carry on with it, maybe shoe horn in that annoying bastard snowman from Frozen, and no one would notice. You can even do a spin off movie with R2-D2 and that mentally deficient freezer baby, I don't care... Just give me the money!".

The prequels were just the red carpet getting rolled out in my opinion.

I invite you to watch closely the movie Independence Day and note how the characters are presented in terms of "winners and losers" by the moviemakers.

Gotcha. I think it was the green screen and cgi, and not so great directing... it was kinda like it's still Star Wars and it was nice to see the back story on screen and go be part of the audience. I do think these will be better but it could be that nothing will ever be as good as the original trilogy.

This part is true except they're not laughing at 'them' as in the five or so morons at Hitler's birthday party - they're utterly freaking out.

One of the websites I go to has over 900 posts of people talking about how white people can't handle a tiny portion of the pain minorities have had and wondering how white people will cope when they're out numbered etc ... It's a bit nutty!

Breaking news, a white racist found a keyboard on the internet! Guess it just kind of reminds me of when a men's right's activist finds a tweet from Jessica Valenti and suddenly Valenti speaks for all feminists everywhere ever, or when Michelle Rodriguez says something about racism in Hollywood and we have to stop the press to tell the person off.

I've heard the press called 'the outrage industry' and it kind of fits.

Well to be fair I'm outraged that even a handful tweeting that there's white genocide because of black people in movies because where one verbalizes on twitter there's a fkn boatload somewhere else propagating this kind of hate and fear, I guess I'm built that way.

It's just stupid.

*Newsflash*

I don't care what roles go to whom unless there is a good reason why they aren't a good fit for that role.

For example, anyone who read the books knew that Harry Potter wasn't going to be a blonde and shouldn't be a girl. Anyone who read the books wasn't surprised by the casting choice for Rue. And if you're going to be casting a Winston Churchill biopic, you don't choose a slender, young gay black man with a Southern accent for ... reasons.

Then, yes, I am objecting to those casting calls because they don't fit.

There is no good reason I am aware of for this character not to be cast as he is. The only thin possibility is if he was supposed to be a Jango Fett clone ... looks nothing like him.

Sadly. I expect you will be vindicated, too. I'd sure like it if we are both wrong though.

I've been to 4chan once. If I assumed there was piles of 4chaners somewhere other than 4chan I'd probably cease all communications with humans.

Mind you am down to liiiiiiiiiiike ... three people. So I'm working on it.
