There is one reason I can think of, and it doesn't necessarily need an Israeli confrontation to achieve it.
An escalation that has the 'potential' of further escalation into a nuclear scenario would drive up world oil prices overnight.
Theoretically, Putin could actually profit from an escalation...whether he starts it or not. (Just the Russian presence opens the door for vested interests to false flag, etc. from a multitude of nations.) If none occurs-he can then deny responsibility, blaming others for starting it- he then has the option to start something himself.
Not sure this is going to happen and don't want to be a fear monger....still...hope for best and plan for the worst....
