It would be irrelevant for Iran as the first moronic country to nuke someone will be obliterated by the rest of the world in both fear of nuclear holocaust and as an example. You'd see the biggest multi-country gang-bang in history.

Of also note, all the big players had just went through a costly world war and where in no position to fight the US, especially as the US didn't join til the end and was still in pretty damn good shape militarily. Plus due to our being the only ones with nukes at the time, after we bombed Japan we were the scariest kids on the block.

Iran is a piddly little # country that the world could put down with little to no personal cost if they decided to.

I posit that Iran knows all this and despite everyone's desire to believe otherwise the country will not suicidally martyr itself over Israel.

Chemical weapons would leave all the infrastructure in place. Nuking the joint renders it uninhabitable and in such a confined part of the world and hotly contested real estate it would go down as the dumbest move ever in the history of military and government decisions.

There would undoubtedly be dancing in the streets in many parts of the world though just like after the 911 event.

the difference being those two bombs as horrific as they were, were actually rather mild in comparison to what would have resulted had the allies invaded Japan in the spring/summer of '46. Millions would have died. Millions.

Or the blockade would have starved the nation of fuel/food, and how many hundreds of thousands would have died of starvation or disease?

...and they came at the end of a brutal four year war in the Pacific.

Not to mention, the U.S. was the only one with the bomb at that time.

I disagree, at that point Israel would have done something completely indefensible, in that scenario the only sensible thing for the U.S.A to do is distance itself as far from Israel as possible.

I disagree, I think Israel would be dissolved as a nation. Remember they are there because multiple countries put them there. We're all responsible for them. If they did such a thing it would be our responsibility to remove them from the middle east, pronto.

Don't think I've ever seen that before. Very interesting take...and not far off the truth of it, really. Though a bit impractical.

All Iran would have to do is bomb Haifa and Tel Aviv and that would be the end of ISrael. They can leave Jerusalem alone as they know they will eventually occupy it and so it would be two-fold victory - destroying Israel and taking over Jerusalem. You cant say its not tempting for them and having every Muslim nation look up to them.

They're not retarded, they'd know it be pure martyrdom plain and simple. Iran wouldn't exist as a nation long enough to occupy anywhere. Your scenario couldn't happen as it requires Iran and Israel to exist in a vacuum separate from world powers, none of which gains anything from allowing anybody to get away with nuking anyone at this point.
