Without a doubt unequivocally in no uncertain terms would I ever consider eating another human being ever. Never. Not under any circumstances.

scienceline.org...

Prion diseases, a group of uncommon and deadly brain diseases, can be spread by eating the contaminated flesh of humans or other animals. The human brain is more contaminated with prions than other body parts, though bone marrow, the spinal cord and the small intestine also contain these fatal brain-eating malformations. Prion diseases occur when the prion protein misfolds, causing a cascade of misfolding prion proteins that clump in the brain and damage or destroy nerve cells, creating sponge-like holes. Current examples include kuru and Creutzfeld-Jacob disease in humans, and mad cow disease in animals, both of which cause brain deterioration, loss of motor control and ultimately death.

Yeah die by going insane and eating your family you are trying to feed. really really dumb move.

I noticed people mentioning Kuru earlier. While yes it is a risk, it's far from guaranteed, especially if you're white. Plus mass cannibalism does have it's health benefits.

First off it has been found that people of white ethnicity are roughly 50% immune to Kuru already. It is believed that this implies some form of mass cannibalism by whites in the ancient past.

Second those born from the survivors, those with immunity to kuru gain not only immunity to kuru but immunity to many other brain eating diseases as well.

So while if mass cannibalism occurs, many will die from malnutrition and kuru, the future generations that survive such a catastrophe will gain some increased health benefits as a result.

That said, at best 50% chance of immunity right now is not good odds. So I don't suggest people start eating each other since these health benefits require lots of people to die off first.

Addendum: Oh and to answer the OP's question, yeah sure, I'll admit to a slight morbid curiosity on the matter. I like trying new foods and meats, so, taboo or not I've always been at least curious.

So, do you ever look around at your neighbors and think "If only I had a bottle of ketchup"? Go for the fat slow one. They taste like marshmallows.

People do desperate things in bad situations to survive. Look how a small pill can change a person's behaviour.

Eww gross do you normally ruin your steak by adding ketchup to it?

I'd eat strangers before friends

They will always be someone else's loved one.

...not mine though.

Dang after your holding hands thread whew!

Haha! I know, I'm a strange one

OK, I'll clarify further, I wouldn't want to eat anyone I've had an emotional attachment with, or if I've ever held their hand....unknown strangers though, not so much of a problem.
I would probably make a curry o something so I could imagine it was some other poor animal though.

Really? You've never heard of cannibalism in Africa?

You need to do some more research.

i was thinking that.

i was also thinking about who would be worried about making curries and such in nuclear winter.
most people just would want to eat and survive.

Dude, currry powder lasts a long time and if I'm eating human because all I've got is spices in the cupboard, I'll certainly use them as I prepare that ghastly meal.
,,,eat it raw if you like, but as long as I can make fire and have x or y spices to hand, then my meal will be a more pleasant experience than yours.

fair enough.
when did i say i would eat it raw though?
dont think i did.

and i know what you mean. i was just being a smart ass.
if youre eating people it probably would make sense to have some sort of spice in your little pack or whatever.

then again, when the shtf and you have to bug it out, is indian spices part of the stuff you take with?

Ah I didn't think you said eat it raw, was just saying if we've lost all care about any taste or 'eating experience' then may as well just eat it raw.

...haha no, spices are not on my carry list but they would be all that's left in the millions of kitchens in the UK if we were starting to eat each other, for sure.
And when they ran out I would still use locally wild herbs if I had to eat you.

I came to this thread after reading another about someone who was disgusted at the suggestion of discussing canabalism and it's not as bad as I thought.

I would eat people if needed but the real issue would be keeping that amount of meat fresh.

You would need to eat them bit by bit but keep them alive as long as possible before killing them and that would be an unpleasant thing to have to do.

Sea salted preserved meat ain't a problem at the coast

Mwahahaha [insert psycho laugh] for the delicate and fragile souls in the other thread.

Smoking would also be a good option and would impart good flavour, any hardwood would do and the addition of juniper would help to mask any unpleasant flavours.

Another consideration would be as to the offal, usually a fresh kill would result in the eating of the liver and kidneys but with all the toxins we humans consume I am not sure it would be safe to eat?

I don't eat the offal of any animal, that's a starving situation thing for me, I'm a steak man, and for the record, I'd eat a horses knob before eating a human.
