Actually we should have everyone who employs illegals and are caught employing them build the wall. I would love to see some of the ritchie rich out there putting in a hard days work, since they are so good at taking advantage of other human beings for their own gain.

Exactly. There's already a great big wall being built, dividing the haves and have nots. Just look at the disparity of wealth in this country.

How about we take down that wall and not build anymore.

illegals pay like 2,000 plus for a coyote runner to get them across, so all we need to do is start a robust work visa program that is good for one year at a time at a cost of 500 bucks. Once your visa is up you go home back to the mother land whether it is Mexico, Africa, South America, Asia (Canada...JKing
). Enforce fines of 5000 per illegal on companies that use them instead of work visa workers. Take the billion+ per year and build the wall....

We had the answers years ago...
Enforce existing laws
Punish those who hire illegals
Stop the anchor babies and freebies.

Why build a wall? You don't want people coming in? Why can't they come here?

Ask California that question...

Yep. The anchor baby misinterpretation of the 14th amendment has been a disaster. Here is a good article about the original intent of the amendment:

The Court essentially stated that the status of the parents determines the citizenship of the child. To qualify children for birthright citizenship, based on the 14th Amendment, parents must owe "direct and immediate allegiance" to the U.S. and be "completely subject" to its jurisdiction. In other words, they must be United States citizens.

So would we build a wall around the Canadian border too?
or is it just mainly for the brown people down south?

It has nothing to do with the color of one's skin. We don't exactly have millions upon millions of Canadians waltzing across the border. Our main problem is the southern border. Our legal citizens come in all colors in case you haven't noticed.

Or you could do what we do on the north border with Canada that has been proven to work.

PROSECUTE the AMERICAN businesses that are hiring illegal immigrants. If the illegals don't have a job to come to the US and no incentive to come like the Canadians, then the majority won't come here illegally.

This Fence business is B$ from the politicians to take away focus from the real solution. The reason they don't want focus on prosecuting the Americans company that hire illegals is because :

1. The largest offender of illegal migrant workers are two very large an powerful lobbying industries that directly benefit from the cheap undocumented slave labor: Agriculture and Hospitality industry.

2. They really don't want to fix the issue because its not broken for the Oligopolies who are benefiting and our economy has become highly dependent on illegal immigrants because of the lies , short sightness and greed of our politicians and to some extent the American population as well.

One day let's hope none of us find ourselves in someone else's shoes, leaving poverty, corruption, and dispair behind because your country has been given over to thieves and crooks.

Build that wall. Just don't be surprised one day when you try to climb it.

I have worked beside illegals for over thirty years. Many are not poor and have had payed big bucks to get here. Many have no intention of staying and becoming legal. Many get cheap housing, medical and food through deceit and lying about being a one income household when they are working and their husbands are working under the table. Their combined income is well over the poverty limit. Many have said they didn't want to wait by coming through the proper channels. And we have thousands of citizens who have lost their lives because of criminal illegals. It is not just poor and desperate people coming here.

We have poor and desperate citizens who have fallen through the cracks and get no help. They have nowhere else to go. They are homeless and hungry. If we can't help our own citizens, we shouldn't be putting foreigners above them in importance and meeting all 'their' needs. Illegal immigration is a huge problem here and we have been more than generous.

I don't disagree with that. But a wall is not the answer to immigration reform.

Yep, probably mostly in the land the US stole from Mexico in 1848....

We bought it, that's why it's called the Gadsden Purchase.
Hardly stealing.

What the OP suggests is slave labor but if you break the law you're pretty much screwed anyway.
Seems practical to me.

So we build a wall for 10 billion to keep out Mexicans that can get over the wall with a $10 ladder.

You would think that Trump as smart as he is could figure this out.

You know, you are right...lets open up to a couple of billion more so that we can be like India or China in living standards. How do you fix something that you did not break and those that did break it don't care. There are 2 plus million homeless kids in Brazil should we bring them all here? How about the 100 million in Africa.

I can't fight all that you talk about in other countries, I can help those in mine though and filling up our streets with millions more really doesn't help them or us very much does it.

So you admit it's slave labor and the penal system is flawed.

So who cares, sounds practical. If you get shafted by the judicial system, your screwed, oh well. Get to work.

This is about Mexico, and a wall. Nothing more. It's not about Brazil or any other country. And as far as I know, the immigrants didn't rob us, it was Wall street.

We can bicker about this all day, but it's not going to change the fact that the vultures and corporatist along with they're shotty deals and trillion dollar bailouts and wars are the source of our problems.

However, propaganda usually favors them. As the rich get richer and the poor poorer, let's regress inwards upon each other.

Never mind them.

My thoughts too. Build a giant wall to shut off the entire southern border. No apartheid there or segregation. (Sarcasm)

Then the US can be like Israel, you know, apartheid an all that. Better still, I have all the plans from my trip to a DHS contractor in 2007. We could build merciful "walls" like the ones I designed in Africa. 4000v@1 amp, that would be 4000 joules. The brain doesn't even have time to recognize what has happened. Of course I was dealing with ANC terrorists and armed insurgents, so for Mexico it may be a little extreme. Or not. It's a question of subjective perception.

Cheers - Dave

We have tons of illegals cross the Canadian border, they fly or sail into Canada and cross like most of the 911 terrorists. Or they sail right into the US or if they have money get a visa and fly in and not leave. Nobody seems to complain about all those people or even notice them.

Since the late 1980s we have become more and more obsessed with illegals for the 200 years before that nobody cared. And lets be real, some states have put out harsh laws cracking down on illegals, and then repealed them because they farms with rotting crops. Nobody they hire would stay on the job and some places were so desperate they tried using prison labor which was also a disaster.

The truth is we need them. And that is why nobody will ever do anything long term to stop them, as soon as your food supply is rotting, nobody is cleaning everything or cooking your meals and construction slows to crawl they will be begging them to come back. Why do you think even anti illegal spokes people like Trump have a long history of hiring them. This is not unique to the US either, it everywhere in the modern world.
