The Confederate flag should be taken down and burned.

You will just love this ...

Service. Honor. Pride.

Maybe some of you ought to listen to this black fella explain the history behind the confederate flag
He sure as heck does not find it "offensive" as he stands there proudly holding it

Clearly they are using their rights as American citizens to fly this flag, as is their prerogative

Ok, then maybe I didn't understand. You said

And even a "teeny" bit about slavery is more than enough.

I took that to mean that you are OK with wars, as long as there is a tiny bit of good in them. I drew the parrellell that at least some people think the war on drugs is good. Did I misunderstand what you meant?

Youre one of the same people who are always saying people put too much stock in the American Flag, and people shouldnt idolize flags yada yada yada.........

so I find it hard to take this thread as anything more then a hypocritical bait thread............

If you think the confederate flag is "racist" then you dont know your history.........

If the Confederate flag is banned/destroyed, then we should ban/destroy the British flag, Mexican Flag and all other flags that the United States has been to war with. I am half Native American, how do think the US flag looks to my grand parents?

In the end, symbols are just that; symbols. Racism has been alive and well throughout human history. If you eliminate one symbol of racist ideals, those who believe in them will simply appropriate another symbol. It's pointless to direct your anger at the symbol. It's more constructive to think about the reasons why we have a tendency toward supremacy in the first place.

Yeah. Let's not fix a bad thing because there's other bad things and let's do this by being as absurd as possible... I mean hello... Egyptian cotton, they owned slaves too!

Let's make this simple for you. Are you of the opinion that the confederate flag that flies in South Carolina is in support of slavery ? Lol

Again yes it did have something to do with slavery. But it was not predominately about slavery .

And even a "teeny" bit about slavery is more than enough.

But the Confederate flag at this point in history has no relation on anyone's opinion about slavery so what is your point?

Sorry I got a big kick out of your " African Americans " love the south video. The checkered flag really sets it off. I can't remember the last time I seen an African-American race car driver. a reply to: dreamingawake

Take your state flag, national flag and all other flags down, I bet you won't, you won't even change the names of sport teams that offend Natives.

It is an integral part of American history. To take away the ability to display it is to hide the recognition that this important event had in the shaping of our country. Look at all of the revolutionary war heritage sites in the Eastern US. Should we take down the images of the British Flag because we revolted against them to win our freedom there?

Guess they would not care for the Mississippi state flag either
Which is voted on by the public....which again is their right to be able to vote on it

I think the flag of the USA should be taken down and burned.

It represents tyranny, it represents one of the darkest times this country has gone through in it's entire history. It represents a Government that went to war to keep people enslaved on reservations, to prevent them from being treated like actual human beings instead of like livestock. That tolerated the rape and stealing of land that did not belong to them. I'm talking about the wars with the indians that lasted from the inception of our country. Or just pick any post WWII war for that matter.

See? It works both ways.

There's more blood on the Union flag than the Confederacy IMHO.

The Confederacy stood up for their state rights but for the wrong reasons. From what I was told in my college education the cause of the Civil War had way more reasons than just the right to own slaves. There was quite a bit of outrage due to the levying of tariffs by the feds and northern states. Which would affect both the common man and the elite slave owners.
