It kind of pains me to be a buzzkill here with this humorous thread, but even if this prediction were true, San Andreas having the "big one" will NEVER result in California breaking off into the Pacific Ocean. The two plates are moving in the wrong direction for that to happen.

It's one of the reasons why I think the movie is going to be terrible: perpetuating a proven hoax fear.

No one would say hey a cat 5 hurricane is gonna hit Cincinnati because everyone knows that's impossible but they don't bother researching that earthquakes of a certain magnitude are only possible in certain areas. Like right around 8 is as big as you'll get on the San Andreas fault. It's not capable of a 9.8.
