The Duggar children, I heard somewhere, are strictly monitored as far as their TV, internet, etc. so it would seem as if what some perceive as the "sexualization" in the media would NOT be a cause (if you will) of his sexual deviance.
I think that I would be concerned of his presence around other children.
I think too that some "pedophiles and perpetrators" were themselves victims at some time which makes me wonder about the older Duggars like Mom and Dad, family friends, etc. I am certainly NOT making an accusation, just wondering...I think it can span generations...
I have a feeling that privacy is an issue in that house and that books, discussions, or information about sexual education is non existent.

When I was very young, my sister gave me a book called "Changing Bodies, Changing Lives" (or minds or something) and it totally FREAKED ME OUT! I did however make it through adolescence and puberty relatively unscathed...

I wonder if this is indicative of the lack of respect for women in that household or with their particular idea of religion. It would seem as if. maybe, women are archaically seen as being there JUST for the man's sexual desire and/or for creating life. Certainly the victims wants, needs, and desires and feelings weren't considered and the fact that it happened more than once, I think shows a lack of compassion or empathy in the boy.

....what exactly are we talking about here? Im not reading ages...so I can't make any assumptions there.

While sexually aggressive behavior is disgusting, i am wondering if there are details I am missing? Otherwise, isn't this extremely misandrist? It says that sometimes the girls would interact with him....is that assault? Or is it just that he is a "dirty little boy"?

Please tell me that there are other details beyond those found in the linked USA Today article.

My mother is 72 has Parkison's and the Dementia that goes with Parkison's....This is the only show that we can get her to watch. She would state over and over if every family was like this one , the world would be safe...Little did we know....I really thought something was going to happen to tarnish thier image but I thought a divorce or one of the girls becoming pregnant out of wed lock.Never thought about Josh being a molster; I agree that sexual repression can cause a warpped idea of sex....I also dissaagree with how they handle the children dating; but my son had a child at 17. So who knows who has the right answers. My mother is very sad, and I know she will miss the show.

There are details we are missing. And I'm not positive of my legal knowledge on the issue, but if the girls were under 10, then what he did was illegal.

An underage person doesn't have the ability to consent. Neither does a sleeping person. That's in law. We don't know the ages of the girls. Being in a position where an older person, sibling or otherwise, initiates an unwanted sexual encounter, it doesn't matter if the younger one "plays" with them or not, IF they are more than four years apart.

The father found out about it by one of the daughters going to him and crying about it. Some of the girls resisted. This wasn't a mutual situation, at least in some of the cases. That's the legal side of it.

The moral side of it is a very different story. It wasn't just one girl, it was 5. And it wasn't just one time. And sometimes they were sleeping, sometimes not. But none of the advances were wanted. I'm sure each girl will be affected in varying degrees, but I know that at the time I was molested (I was about 12, he was 14-15) I wouldn't have told on him or wanted to punish him, because I looked up to him and wanted to be "cool". I resisted, cried and hated it, but I was confused and didn't know what to do or how to act. Only years later did I realize the impact it had on me. So, even though his sisters are saying they forgive him... they may not know the full extent of the damage. When I started dating seriously, that's when the damage started to show. In my situation, at least.

The details in the story are so scant that I just can't really form an opinion, other than of the opinion that others have formed thus far.

To me: this was just TLC's way of getting out from under the Duggers. Which, if true, is disturbing in that it seems like they may have known about this for awhile, and only used the information when it could be exploited for their benefit.

ETA: i should add that I have no clue what the laws are regarding 2 underage parties.

Can you imagine the outrage from the Right if one of Obama's daughters was caught in a compromising sexual position with a male or female.

The outcry would be deafening.

But the Right leaning members on this site want to let a Christian pedophile slide and make lame excuses for his behavior.

What I would like to know is this:

Why is Mike Huckabee involved with this family? Who told the judge to order and destroy this record? And what else is this family hiding?

Too many questions are now coming up that many do not want to talk about or mention. I also find it funny how every one is willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, and to forgive Josh Duggar, however, if a convicted child molestor were to move into their neighborhood, you can put good money down that they would be out with pitchforks and torches to stop such, and not wanting such from happening.

Meh. He was wrong but it wasnt rape and it was during the onset of puberty.
This is a little more than most kids go through because its usually awkward fumbling with someone the same age. I dont think he is a sexual deviant just a ball of hormones at the time. I dont think his parents should have been expected to go to the police (you go and confess something to the two people you should always be able to trust and they call the cops?)
