The popular crowd-funding site GoFundMe rejected a campaign to raise money for the South Carolina officer charged with fatally shooting an unarmed black man last week.

Officer Michael Slager, 33, was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder for the killing of 50-year-old Walter Scott after video footage surfaced, showing Scott being shot multiple times with his back turned and running away. The video also appears to show Slager planting a taser by Scott’s body as evidence the shooting was in self-defense.

GoFundMe confirmed it removed a campaign supporting Slager.

Wait... now, I think this cop is a murderer and I think it's disgusting that anyone would want to raise funds for his defense BUT! I don't think it's okay for gofundme to reject the campaign. I mean think about it outside the actual circumstances. Discrimination is discrimination, isn't it?

It's a private company. They have the right to refuse service.

Why would they reject it the guy is getting screwed to keep things calm. People are going to riot anyway!!

Suicide by cop is what I saw.

Why is "HANDS UP DON'T SHOOT" so hard to remember. So now all criminals will just walk away because it's OK????

Discrimination? How? GoFundMe is a private business. It's not like they are refusing service because he is a cop or something. They are refusing service because of his accused actions. Or maybe they are trying to stay out of what could easily become another Ferguson.

I always say obey what the police officer says but are you saying if the person runs a cop has the right to shoot him eight times in the back? No.

The cop is a murderer.

No.
There is no reason that the cop couldn't have chased the man down and tackled him just like we see in plenty of police videos.... other than laziness.

This would be a huge PR scandal for them. Business is business.

After seeing the video, I am more afraid and untrusting of the cops than ever before.
They will have more people running because of this, IMO.

And after seeing the video when the guy ran off he wasn't exactly running fast .. The fact the officer didn't even attempt to give chase on foot is a red flag for me, and 8 shots? Murderer .. End of

Still spamming this tripe?

If people can't see what happened here for what it is , that is scary.

I think they have the right to refuse to host a GoFundMe campaign for the cop. I see this much in the same way a bakery would refuse service to a gay couple, GoFundMe already decided the cop was guilty, and doesn't deserve a defense, and the bakery already decided the gay people were going to hell.

You can't change people's minds, stop trying to make people do things that you WANT them to do.

I personally don't think the cop deserves the benefit of any sort of external help. Does anybody else get support of that type when they are being charged with an UNRECORDED murder? This guy did it in front of a camera, and then tried to cover his crime up afterwards.

If a non-police officer did something like this, does anybody realistically think that anybody would try to crowd-fund their defense? The answer is no. The only person who would be fighting for that person is the public pretender, and even then only because they have to.

This doesn't really touch on the subject here which is GoFundMe denying the application. Perhaps they don't want this guy to have any of that extraordinary assistance funding like that would provide, to put it simply..they don't want their private business to possibly help get a dirty, murdering cop out from under the very fair crimes he is charged with.

10/10 would deny again.

I own and run a free subdomain website hosting company and I make it plain that free sites are offered solely at my discretion.
I would delete any new account which promoted or helped that cop after seeing the video, in a heartbeat.
Censorship? Yes, absolutely...it is why I don't ever bitch about ATS owners running this place as they wish.
The guy was clearly a killer who deserves no support other than a taxpayer funded lawyer in my opinion.
