During and immediately after the first Gulf War, more than 200,000 of 700,000 U.S. troops sent to Iraq and Kuwait in January 1991 were exposed to nerve gas and other chemical agents. Though aware of this, the Department of Defense and CIA launched a campaign of lies and concocted a cover-up that continues today.

A quarter of a century later, the troops nearest the explosions are dying of brain cancer at two to three times the rate of those who were farther away. Others have lung cancer or debilitating chronic diseases, and pain.

Disgraceful!

Let's be honest...

It's on the same level as Nuke Testing sites across the world that have years later killed millions...

Or Fallujah & Depleted Uranium causing children to be born with deformities...

Some so graphic that we can't share them on ATS...

I don't think we* know sadness really...

Not on the same level anyways.

*We being people unaffected by carcinogenic weapons*.

Disgrace!

Edit: People should have been forcibly euthanised for their part in poisoning those they deemed an enemy, & also those who fought for them.

Aren't you glad the USA loves ya? Just think what they would do to you if they didn't. But the patriots will wave their flags higher and it will make everything better, won't it? Like I said in another post,I'm much more afraid of my own government than any other,or terrorist.

BTW I'm am sorry you and others had to go through that.My brother in law was in agent orange in Vietnam. He used to wave his flag too, until he saw how the government treated him.

Nazis didn't have the chance to redeem their atrocities...

The U.S. can!

& remember, the Nazis weren't a select few...

They numbered in the millions.

The only thing the U.S. have done the Nazis didn't is nuke someone...

& H&N is for Japan & Asia to forgive... imo.

Later in 1991, UNSCOM (the United Nations Special Commission) found nerve gas in the remains of rockets the U.S. blew up in Khamisiyah and told the Pentagon. In November, although the Joint Chiefs briefed the CIA, other intelligence agencies and the White House, no action was taken. (Six years later, the DOD declassified the UNSCOM memo, posting it on its Gulflink website. Seven months after that, the CIA had it removed—claiming it revealed too much about methods it used to gather intelligence.)

Why doesn't that surprise me?

You and I don't often see eye to eye, Cav, but on this one we do 100%. I have two cousins who were both there for the first "party" and both of them have "mysterious" illnesses to this day that gee whiz the VA just can't figure out.

Fortunately both of them are able to manage their symptoms somewhat well, but both of them also had trouble with college and so on, like yourself, along with a number of other issues. They just cope as best they can.

Stay strong

I am just trying for SSI at this point.
I can't work if I can't retain instructions .
I am a LOT better off than MANY who didn't take a copy of their med records before they left.
MANY somehow became lost.
My big chance in ART was 3d in school . 2 d art isn't possible to make money from unless you live near a studio or have a name in one of the book houses.

Flagged. Not much to say, and not much surprise. I do hope one day the PATRIOT acts are used to round up the anti-American infiltrators in the government (and any involved NGEs) who decided to use chemical weapons, ship them to GITMO, and choke them on nerve gas.

Blowing up chemical weapons not only caused harm to our soldiers, it caused harm to the people in Iraq. If they admitted doing this, they may be liable for a bunch of lawsuits from citizens of that country.

With ya. So much more patriotism lost in denying that these things occurred, then if they just came out and admitted it. We can take that a lot better.

To my Vet family I PROMISE you we have been LIED to on a base level for a century AT LEAST.
What we do now is lead by example as we most believe we should. THOSE who forment these acts aren't American,THEY ARE MONEY.

The one thing about your source I take issue with is that it doesnt mention the German, French and other European countries that built up Iraqs chemical weapons PRODUCTION capabilities.

I remember hearing about you guys all throughout growing up. I think everyone has always known that you guys were exposed. It was just an ugly sore secret that the American people of the 90s were not ready to admit to. There seems to be an active effort still to hide the fact that Europe AND the east were building up not only stockpiles but production capabilities in the middle east. I just dont get why only the US gets the blame.

Its about damned time someone addressed this officially and did something to alleviate the situation. Who knows if that will ever happen.

Be well sir.
Hold it down.

when i was young and pledged allegiance to the flag, i had a bright, wonderful picture
of the United States..the saviors of the world.
over the years that picture has dimmed, faded and begun to run.
today the portrait seems very ugly...it makes me sad.
