What do you say to those who don't believe they need guns to protect themselves, but rather own and shoot guns for sport or hobby?

My issue is with the widespread ownership and use of firearms along with the yeehaw 'Murica! attitude a lot of gun owners have, as this thread has demonstrated beyond all doubt.
