I looked at this thread after it was well underway. I don't think I have the endurance to read through 36 pages.

I'll wait for the actual news to explain all of this. Bye!

I am waiting for something more than rumor.

1. Putin missed the FSB meeting for the first time in his career
2. He canceled a meeting and the person he was to meet announced the reason as illness.
3. Kremlin denied this illness.
4. Kremlin states Putin is healthy, working in private.
5. Kremlin releases information about a meeting for "Womens day", women announce it happened days before.
6. Russian media release several false news stories of meetings that never happened, and had to publicly retract them.
7. Kremlin spends several days saying Putin is perfectly fine, not ill, not dead, and working in private. Then announces on the 15th that he's in bed with a bad cold.

These are just a few of the facts, but I have a feeling you'll disregard it all as "rumour" regardless.

Well, former Ambassadors are getting in on the speculation fun.

Vladimir Putin: Israel's former ambassador to Russia says 'signs of a coup'

Source

"There are many signs of a coup," Magen told Israel's Haaretz newspaper. "The movement of the army around the Kremlin indicates that there is a change in government, or that an attempt at a change in government is being carried out."

In Moscow it is now a little after 3 AM on Monday Morning. We will know soon enough if Vladimir Putin is alive or dead. We can sleep on it.

Nope. Facts is facts.
Rumor would be; he's dead, he's deposed, he's with his mistress...

Putin should have at least shown up to demonstrate to the public that he is still in power and remains in control. He's specifically known to stay in the public spotlight for that reason alone, to show an impervious super-human like facade. Even if we was sick, he would in all likelihood, inject himself with some steroids, or epinephrine to get up in front of a camera long enough to give assurances to his people. Since that hasn't happened, one can assume that he simply can't. For a man who has rarely failed to appear in front of a camera, even being ill, I'm sure he'd make an appearance.

With that being said, given the other circumstances of how long he's been out, it could very well be that he has been incapacitated by something like a stroke or fatal illness, and the remaining parts of his cabinet are scrambling to either remain in power, or fight off a semi-hostile takeover. (doesn't necessarily have to be a coup) A few days ago, they may have believed he would recover or needed time to see if he would, but perhaps things turned for the worse.

If it were a coup, I would think that there'd be a lot more commotion happening, more blow-ups on Twitter and Youtube, etc. and that's not what's happening.

There's no doubt something strange is happening. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next 12-24 hours.

~Namaste

ya could be something so simple like there was a threat that seemed legit so they beefed up security a bit. The problem is there are literally a dozen theories and not one thing of concrete yet...I don't see how you could cover up an assassination this long. There would be too many inner people freaking out and talking about it..telling their families or even people leaving the country seeking asylum by now. I just think there would be much more going on if he was killed.

I'm not saying Putin was assassinated. I was merely pointing out the possibility that Putin might be under tighter security after his "rival" was executed near the Kremlin. My earlier posts show I agree with you that Russian friends and family would already have leaked things if Putin was killed. I don't believe Putin was killed.

I'm going to throw this in here take it for what it is:

What do we really know? Absolutely nothing the embassy can't be proven, nor the coup, nor the flu, nor the baby.

So what can an objective individual think? With reasonable suspicion? Is as follows; we know Putin's nemesis was assassinated, we know he's been missing, nothing else.

At this point we have to use our better judgement, a world superpower who craves the spotlight like a heroin addicted Courtney love, Kim k, pick a spotlight whore excuse my French, they crave the attention more than anything except money. Now both money and publicity are gone, those are hurting his image which is the most Iimportant thing for a celebrity if you will. You can't honestly believe that all of these major rumors wouldn't be squashed immediately by the attention whore himself.

Now that brings into question what is going on, well what do we know? We know there's heavy sanctions and his economy is hurting, regardless of oligarchs they need the country intact to make more money toppling the government would be suicide as we've seen with someone worse a possibility for power change. They wouldn't risk it knowing they have an ally in Putin. What else do we know? That there are major troop movments in Europe, unprecedented actually. 6 companies of marines to train the Ukrainian national guard. over 1000 mile march dam near his border to the black sea, we know we are conduct ing exercises there while being monitored by the black sea fleet itself. So what can we deduce?

At this point this is still my opinion, I think this is the precursor to a actually physical conflict with Russia. No nukes just conventional it would be suicide for Putin to put his fleet in front of ours in hope his capital wouldn't be attacked, which would explain his hiding, to me it seems like he is preparing for an attack and just being precautionary. Worried of a first strike from us or a unfriendly nation on his capital would incapacitate him outright if he wasn't expecting it. From a military perspective this boils down to who flinched first. Putin can't flinch if he's nowhere in sight. At this point he could accuse the US of overstepping the exercise guidelines and attack some of our fleet indefinitely. almost as if there watching to see if we're actually planning an invasion. We will be under extreme scrutiny in the black sea and I'm sure there are military analyst for Russia monitoring every step in those exercises looking for something that would give them reason to believe that we may be preparing a NATO invasion type scenario or JTF type show of force.

What do you all think?

They appear to be referencing the existence of the rumor when using the word 'fact'

Seems like he could be overseeing a response to the US/UK moving military machinery, advisors and forces into the region, should that be necessary. He remembers how US/UK supported Georgia's attack in the region.

Its not a rumor , I just came back from the grocery store with this milk carton.

news.bbcimg.co.uk... " border=0>

Definitely lots of speculation and hard to rule the truth from the rumours. I still keep hearing the Russian embassy was cleared out but their web-page had mentioned non of this? So I actually don't know if that was true , but I'm leaning more towards the rumor mill on that one.

Nonetheless , its an interesting event on how its all evolving including rumors and all.

My opinion and what I think after 36+ pages, is that those who are in the know are not saying. If and I say a big if a coup has transpired, what next? How and who will be the next in charge, and what are their policies, if any?

Putin might just be sick, or just had surgery for his back, if so I'm sure he loves all the attention he's getting worldwide. As a plus he's getting lots of ideas from everyone. He'll probably work it to his advantage. I hope that is all this is, just a bit of surgery recovery, we'll see soon I hope.
