I agree, he's surrounded by hard-liners, he's actively encouraged a rampant nationalism and those in his inner circle generally all have the same views, and some are considerably more extreme than he is. There is really no viable "liberal" opposition in Russia, so whoever replaces him is unlikely to be of any good to the rest of the world.

Interesting it suggests they have not spoke to him either.

It seems a bizarre time to just take a break.

I don't think they were speaking much even before Putin vanished. The Kremlin, according to rumor, has announced a press conference, reporters were asked to stick around over the weekend. I didn't think the Kremlin did many press conferences.

There's no evidence for this news conference or announcement. The one site that has mentioned it has presented two tweets from a journalist, neither of which says anything about any news conference or being asked to hang around for news.

This is an entirely fictitious story.

Probably so. My biggest thing about all this is with all the rumors spreading about, well it can't be good for Russian Moral. Seems like Putin would show himself to a big crowd or something to end it once and for all, unless this is some type of tactic or maybe even a smokescreen to help water down Boris's death.
