My suggestion would be to get to know some NRA club shooters....
Plenty of folks who would be happy to escort you ....(a noob) to their shooting range and happily lend you some irons to shoot.
Gun owners here actually are proud of their RTBA and would love to show you the ropes.....guests are sometimes admitted at minimal charges and your ammo would be your major expense....NRA does have events for novices throughout the country regularly....gte to know these people and you will have a great and safe shooting adventure....
Be sure to respect the gravity of it all though....
Guns are not toys and the last thing youd want is to have an AD or other serious consequence......

Try to attend an IPSC match if possible...(not that you would be allowed to compete but it would be an eye opener.....)

Yep sounds like a well prepared plan indeed.

Why make the point about it?
I imagine such a situation has a million 'either way' unknowns involved which must be a nightmare.
The guy discovered he helped create another human, he has shown an intention to adhere to the wishes of the mother and concerns for all involved, and just wants to see his son.
Good luck to him regardless of how sewn up his plan may by.
Why not leave him the # alone yeh, it is of no tangiable concern to you.

*Edit*
...or even be helpful and share the cheapest places to shoot in your area if it turns out that his son is close enough to be relevant?

Up here in Vermont my favorite gun range doesn't charge anything to use their site - they do accept donations and have boxes for your donations - I typically will throw a $5 or a $10 in when I go (but you have to bring your own firearms/ammunition).

I belong to a sportsmen's club. My dues are $45 per year. Any member can go during range hours and if you pass the range safety class you get a key and can go anytime. This gets you access to the outdoor rifle and pistol ranges, the skeet and sporting clays range, the archery range, the indoor pistol and small bore rifle range. There is also a stocked fishing pond and picnic area with a small playground. You have to provide your own guns and ammo as well as the clays. There is a reloading section with reloaders, you have to provide your own dies, powder, primers and bullets. You can rent a locker where you can store unused reloading supplies. A few times a year you might be asked to give a few hours of your time to help with upkeep to help keep the costs down.

You need to come to Knob Creek gun show in Kentucky if you are wanting to shoot. Biggest international gun range in the world. We have a giant annual gun show and shoot. You can shoot cars and explosive targets with pretty much whatever you desire and since it's my home state, my brother and I might see you there.

Also, I have never rented on, but I will ask him what it costs there.

Sorry in advance for music and cheesiness in whoever made these videos. These are from the Knob Creek gun show/shoot. Shoot most any gun you could ever want Browning 50 cal, full auto AKs, uzi's, Gatling guns, probably small artillary, and take a ride in a Huey. Let it be known you will see the moderate shooters, to true gun nuts, BUT it's Kentucky so every single one of them will be nice and hold the door for you.

Link Knob Creek (prob all the info you need right here)
and international visitors

Also, if you didn't know, Knob Creek Ky world famous for whisky. None better in the world. You can do the whole bourbon trail.

And Knob Creek is for international visitors. So you won't get the questions or confusion of just being from out of the country and hitting a random gun range.

Nah, lots of international visitors. There is a whole section on their site dedicated to international visitors. It is a range year round, but if you are making the trip they have the machine gun shoot and gun show twice a year. It's wild to see people trade a gun, then trade their trade. ATF will be there at their booth watching it all lol.

It's cool though.

Oh and no. I mean we'd get it, the knob reference, but here it's not used very commonly. Stephen King and middle schools are where you'd be most likely to here it, both telling someone creatively to bob one.

If you show up in the same outfit sporting the same stance, I would say priceless.

Of course, as anyone can, but blatantly snide comments to the emotional backstory of an OP are not usually welcome on ATS. I note you are less than 48 hours into your membership here though so perhaps you did not realise.

...now, how much does it cost for the OP to shoot at a range near you?

Yes, Knob Creek is right next to Wankerville, Pillocktown, Winkleburg and Plonkerton.

The odd thing is that John Thomas is the mayor of all of them

9mm, .22 and .223 will be the least expensive if you plan on putting a lot of rounds down range. They are the cheapest calibers by far, mainly because they are the most common.

If you hit Atlanta there are plenty of places here I can point you to and grab a few pints after!

Now that would be a thread and a half

For information: John Thomas is still wanted in Bollockshire but they don't have an extradition agreement with the rest so he's safe for now.

...I actually chuckled at Knob Creak as well, sorry GogoVicMorrow because your post was really so helpful, it's just such a common slang word in the UK and I'm quite a childish humour type bloke.

It's a bs question anyway.

Any logical estimation would put you well below $100. Is an extra $100 really something to take in account when you are making a trip to America anyway?

It's like asking, "how much for dinner in America", "how much for a cab in America", "how much for a streetwalker in America".........
