I guess if they really feel the need for extra protection, they can always hire local security for patrols. In many areas that won't mean armed security, although in some European states there are licensed companies performing armed security services. As for them being personally armed? Can't see that getting traction.

To be honest though, I think the whole "increased European anti-semitism" is way overblown anyway. A lot comes down to the interpretation these days of what constitutes anti-semitism. Where simply criticizing the state of Israel is deemed anti-semitic, that will be used to hugely inflate the figures. Thus, as European states start supporting the Palestinian cause, so the reported anti-semitism rates will increase.

I remember the film I watched about 3 years ago, Defamation, by Jewish film maker Yoav Shamir. It really was quite an eye opener and certainly reinforced my stance of the term "snti-semitic" being way overused and very often how the charges were false and defamatory when used to try and ridicule or smear the supposed ant-semites. I'd recommend people watch it.

Yes, the French police did such a good job of protecting the staff of Charlie Hebdo, the Casher Hypermarché and the staff of that printing plant in the suburbs that no public intellectual or Jew need worry for their safety. The Rabbi is merely being paranoid. As for Anti-Semitism in Europe?

Nothing to see here, move along....

Im sorry, but the fact is Muslims are the biggest victims of fanatical Islam.
They are killed in their thousands, and then get the blame for it.
Im not sure if you are aware but the supermarket wasnt being protected by police, and neither was the printing factory.

When the police did arrive, they were very professional and solved the situation with minimum casualties.

So what exactly is your point?

If anything, Charlie Hebdo proves that it doesnt matter how "prepared" you may think you are, if someone determined enough wishes to cause an outrage, there really isnt much to stop them.

All I see here, and yes this is going to be controversial, is a select group of jews hijacking Charlie Hebdo to play the victim card, yet again, in an effort to repair the damage they did last year with the atrocities in Gaza. I suppose because I used the word jew, that my sentiments must be anti semitic. But then any criticism of Israel or jews is anti semitic isnt it? Regardless of whether its the truth.

Im all for equality and freedom for everyone, I just dont like anyone being "more equal" than anyone else.

I'm sure it will be dismissed, although their religion is the only religion to be protected by law in the western world, so.....

There are 100 Muslims for every 1 Jew and several Islamic countries have vowed to wipe out Jews. Not to mention they are also the target of Christian Skinheads, why should there not be laws to protect them?

So maybe we should arm gays too, they get a harsh ride? Many countries have vowed to wipe them out too.

The right wing nutters in the UK right now seem to be attacking muslims, not jews.

Jewish hate crime rose as a result of Gaza last year, not right wing nutters.

And besides, there are laws to protect them. Just like they protect everyone else.
After a few years of constant "hate islam" propaganda, people are really believing the bull#.
Tell ya what, lets just arm everybody eh? Then we can kill each other a bit quicker.

My post had absolutely NOTHING to do with arming Jews, it was strictly about laws protecting Jews. You are also absolutely right that Gays are targets of Muslim terrorists and skinheads, but then again there are also laws that protect gays.

Thanks for letting me know you are just another ignorant Jew Hater.

Thats right, because I disagree with you then Im automatically a "jew hater" you might as well have used the big gun and just called me "anti semitic". I thought this whole thread was about creating "new laws" that allow "jews" to carry "guns".
There are laws that already protect jews, just like there are laws to protect gays, and muslims or anyone else for that matter. Thats what equality is all about.
So, in a thread about new laws to allow jews to carry guns, what is ignorant about me talking about new laws to allow gays or muslims or anyone else to carry guns?
Because I seriously am missing something.

Tell why and how exactly that Im a "jew hater", instead of just bandying around the accusation, I would rather you at least back it up with some facts.

You should not be allowed to accuse people of such things because they disagree with you. It's the height of bigotry.

Let's think about laws that prohibit one from owning a gun.

Say you get a gun anyway.

The government finds out.

They send guys with guns to put you in a cage because they're allowed to have guns, and you're not.

Makes perfect sense.

This is why the writers of The Constitution put in the 2nd Amendment. Nobody should need to beg their government to be able to protect themselves.

What laws would these be? I can't think of a single EU country were gun ownership is prohibited. So, dismount your sanctimonious high horse and stop with the worship of your parchment, you're not special.

We're not special but we CAN defend ourselves. I'll worship this paper and you can worship that old hag.

I've lived in some really rough places during my time yet I have always felt perfectly safe no matter where I am. I cannot remember the last time I've ever felt "unsafe". I'm not really sure what your point is, to be honest, other than admitting you're a bit a wimp

But then, I don't have to worry about my country being awash with military grade weapons for sale at the local supermarket, so I don't have to concern myself over whether there are a multitude of ne'er do well's with machine guns lurking around the corner. Despite the headlines in the Daily Mail, the risk of being assaulted in the UK with a deadly weapon is minuscule and the chances of being a victim of a physical assault of any sort is tiny.

I agree with what it says. If you can't handle that, tough. I don't worship anything. I do have one question for you. Why do you feel the need to talk # to us Americans? I know, you think you're better than us. Like you said about the poster. You think you're special. That's why there was a defensive play posted.

If you want to debate the topic, fine. You can have my weapons only when you pry my cold dead hands off it.

Well, in my case it was a response to (yet another) US poster crowing how wonderful it is to have guns and how powerless us poor Europeans are for not having any (even though across the EU, gun laws are not that dissimilar to the USA, a point I have made several times in this thread alone already)
