Hey the Aussies are always stealing our stuff, Russell Crowe, Pavlova, Phar Lap (a race horse), Split Enz, to name a few, claiming them as Australian when they were actually from NZ, now they are stealing our earthquakes! LOL
They can have them as far as I'm concerned.
Mines closing down, Ranches being sold off to the Chinese, Floods, Fires, Refugees, Unemployment on the rise, losing two Test series of Cricket to the English ........
Maybe the "Lucky Country"s luck has just about run out.

Bahahahah that absolutely cracked me up. How I loved Split Enz when i was growing up.

Anything we stole of you was in anticipation of having to listen to Dave Dobbyn Slice Of Heaven over and over again. "Losing the last two tests to the English".....well them are just fighting words.

Ah New Zealand....our brothers in arms....where men are men...and sheep are scared.

Thanks for that info! Interesting!

Ha! You guys are more than welcome to claim Russell back if you want? Not particularly a Pav fan either! My husband hasn't stopped moaning about the cricket either.

I guess we only know what we know, until something else happens, or new info is discovered. Hopefully not your scenario of a continental shelf collapse! Although maybe it'll come wash abbott to some deserted island.

Looks like, according to Geoscience, there aren't any new ones today.

is everyone over here?
comprehensive analysis of recent swarm E OFF TANEGASHIMA ISLAND KYUSHU, JAPAN
After looking at it, nothing to panic about. Based on 52 years of history there is only a 7.1% chance it will end up with a M6+ in that immediate area

Looks like my once a year post on that topic (that didn't take off)?

that post contains graphs, maps and two animations

Something new on Global Earthquake Survey
magnitude 5+ earthquakes located by EMSC, listed and mapped daily, with a weekly interactive map and an animation at the end of each week.

there is still another 5 hours to go to the end of Week 32, so I can make the animation. The images for the previous 6 days are already posted though.
I'm finding EMSC is the easiest Network to use, as they have a M5+ page. www.emsc-csem.org...

edit on 0800000022022015 by muzzy because: (no reason given)

BTW I shifted the EMSC Yearly Tables from posts to pages, in case anyone is looking for them, the page address' has changed but you can still find them off the menu.
edit on 0800000022022015 by muzzy because: (no reason given)

I guess its all pretty subjective, depends on what Network you want to follow, EMSC and USGS do a lot of downgrading, a few days after the event, there were 4 x M5.9's in the last 3 weeks that would have had a 6 icon on those maps, but they got downgraded since then.

If its just animations that are of interest, I created a page just for those.

USGS are being very selective as to what magnitude type they post as the main one on the General Summary page, that one you posted is actually 6.5Mww, Mwc, Mwb earthquake.usgs.gov...
here is the graph for it, Honiara.

Same with todays Indian Ridge, GS says 5.5mb, is actually 6.0Mww, Mwc, Mwb earthquake.usgs.gov...
you almost have to take a screenshot when you see it, to prove you weren't seeing things.
