If you really can't afford it, please don't do it. No matter what, we all think of you as a stellar content contributor,

No one knows who's contributing what. There will be no public indication of what someone has, or hasn't done. No titles, no spangly boxes. It's just a funzie label for the contribution categories. If it was a free-form fill in your own amount, there'd be misplaced decimals and commas, and "oops, my God that's not what I meant" and a million other things to go haywire.

The Overlord tried to make this as simple as possible and maybe a little whimsy in there. That's all.

Didn't mean to offend, I apologise if I did.

I just didn't want it to turn into that kind of thing... it was my one concern about the whole thing, rewards or perks or self promotion or "I donated, look at me... I saved the site, did YOU"

I just don't see the need or the point in it.

Can we not just be humble? Anonymous, gracious?

Do we have to Tweet and share and brag about everything?? Even how much and whether we donated or not? Really?

I didn't go thru all the pages, but did you consider making an app to be distributed on App Store & Google Play? There are several free apps on the app store simply reply on Ad Revenue.

As long as App is approved in App Store, you can use Apple's iAd to generate some revenue.

anyways, i think if we can pull this off, donators should get the option to switch off the profanity filter. it's a little thing, but sometimes the little things are the most satisfying...

ya' know, that's not a bad idea....it could list the hottest topics on the site, and let you read them, but no replies...for that, you'd need to join up. and it could also provide access to the multiple podcasts they do here...seems like it would be something simple, and completely unoffensive...

I just want to be clear. In all the time I've been on ATS I've never seen advertisers control anything.

Bill and Mark have always made their own decisions regarding the content they wanted. And what those two were willing to give up was often little or nothing.

If the site didn't have to worry about revenue, there'd still be "censorship"as people call it because otherwise we'd be everybody else.

There's a standard here. Not only on how we talk to each other but also what we talk about.

Sure there's a lot of silly stuff. But I don't care to ever see Gore or Pr0n on ATS.

Nor most of the other topics that are generally frowned upon. Like praising Hitler or pretending lizard aliens run the white house.

To each his own topic wise...but I'm happy with what we've got.

The war on drugs was a huge deal and now there are almost daily threads about it. Things change, when they need to.

I was just sitting here wondering if I should go back to using Firefox for my browser, and a different search engine, and then I thought What do I do about my phone? It seems like G is intertwined with all kinds of crap on my Android. Is there any way to break free? Not to mention gmail, and youtube, and loads more I'm probably forgetting about. I don't like the thought of advertisers being able to steer content.

Hmm I haven't had that problem with adsense. However I don't generate nearly as many views.

I will double My donation if an admin or mod can recover the password to my old account.

well, i believe a line is walked..a balance struck between keeping the members happy, and keeping the advertisers happy...maybe "control" is too strong a word...probably more like, they know what will get them in trouble, so it's kept away from.

in any event, when i talk about censorship, i'm talking not being able to talk about certain topics, simply because certain people don't like them, regardless of whether or not there's any truth to what's being said. i'm all for a standard, but we're supposed to be about denying ignorance. that's something i very strongly believe in, and it feels like, the last few years, we've been heading in the opposite direction, ya' know?

i wouldn't want to see gore(unless it was directly related to the topic, not just gore for the sake of gore), or pornography on ATS either, because that's not what we're about here...i'm sorry if you thought i implied those things should be allowed here...they're not appropriate for this venue.
