Anyone else notice at 1:01 in the link below the video glitches and shows slightly differant angle for 1 frame? Almost like it wasn't live or something?

www.skynews.com.au...

It wasn't a slightly different angle, it was just a glitch. The right side of the shot was on the left side. I can say this with certainty after I matched up the glitch shot with the non-glitch shot and the only differences was the swat guy in the back, who was throwing the flashbang.

Here are the two frames I looked at (cropped for easier visibility, visit the link below for the full frames). The white bit is because the glitch image had a wider shot, so I had to crop it so it would match up how the non-glitch shot is. Here's a link to the raw shots in an Imgur folder if you want to see those. You'll see what I'm talking about with the glitched frame being wider, showing a black bar and then showing what's further left of the motorcycle than what the other shot shows.

9 News mentioned the briefing time was 5:30am, rather than 5:00am.

That'd be about 45 minutes from now.

can someone explain something to me?

how is it possible nobody could take this dude out? im not trying to talk like rambo and i know fear can cause you to clam up but fear can also motivate you...

this was 1 guy with 1 shotgun. a shotgun has a long draw. i dont think he could have had the gun on all people at the same time. people were free enough to escape.

I wondered the same thing myself, if it was up to me I would've called in a marksman pronto. However there was a heavily armored officer at the scene and that suggested that there could be explosives present, and it's better to be safe than sorry especially when there are hostages involved.

But if this was just a man with a gun, I would've given the order to the marksman to take him down the moment the opportunity arose.

a reply to: Thecakeisalie i was listening to a active hostage negotiator who said when you get to hour 12 thats the peak when they can no longer sustain intensity and start to wind down, it is usually the safest time to commence take/talk down apparently.

Sorry if I missed this earlier. I tried searching for the answer, but didn't succeed.

What is up with the 4 bombs that were mentioned? I came across the hostage videos where they were claiming that 4 bombs were around the city and would go off if he (the gunman) didn't get his call and his flag (which you would think he would have acquired on his own). Haven't seen this mentioned on any news (in North America).

Again, sorry if this was already addressed. Quite curious if this was a serious threat, and still is. I assume it isn't as the siege is now over. I wouldn't think the police would be so stupid as to not check the threat out before storming the café.

I'm not sure... I know they had a "bomb robot" inside the cafe, and later they declared that the operation was over? I think we'll have to wait for the police briefing that's supposed to happen soon.

That's the news that was overshadowed by some charlatan.

Not to mention Jordan movin down to 4th place.

Yet you are aware of those stories enough to comment about them. People have the capacity to follow more than one story at a time. You invalidated your own argument.

Despite what many in ATS like to believe, and movies, hostage rescue operations aren't always about killing the hostage takers. It's a finely choreographed dance, between wearing a hostage taker down, getting as much intelligence out of him as you can, protecting the hostages, and preparing an assault team.

I won't go into the tactics that play a part in situations like these, but I assure you that once they were out of the initial response phase, nearly everything they did had a purpose. In a perfect world, all the hostages, hostage rescue, and hostage takers make it out alive. Unfortunately it's rarely that perfect.

I stayed on this thread until I went to sleep last night. Many new and thought provoking comments today, still.

Just thinking though...... This guy is obviously one of the "criminally insane", and has a long history of erratic and violent behaviors. (shoulda, coulda, woulda been put behind bars or in a forensic facility long ago) But.......

He could have asked for an Easter Bunny flag. Crazy and confused is crazy and confused.

I'm so proud of the way LE, military, and whoever else handled this. The U.S. could sure use some consultation with those guys.

I absolutely in no way 'discount' what they are going through that is a horrible assumption to make about me!!!! I just think that he is not Part of a real terror organisation because he would have done something very horrific by now if he were in MY opinion anyway, they don't do this kind of thing and negotiate etc you twisted what i have said, i just don't think he is that kind of terrorist.

Digginindirt is the one who is a victim of outside influences. Everything you have assumed and said is part of a trope...and subsequently off the mark.

Bella's thoughts and ideas have been vindicated. Your route thinking, not hers, is in error.

He is a well known lone-nut. A Iranian Shia refuge who murdered his wife and converted to Sunni LAST WEEK. One of his requests was for the proper ISIS Flag...he didn't even access to THAT.

Lone jackass'es exist, even if they don't fit into the world view that others have crafted for you, diggy.

And in response, Aussies are reaching out to the wider Muslim community saying that there will be no backlash, that they know this guy doesn't represent them all..

#iwillridewithyou is trending in Australia right now.

You may want the world to collapse according to your script, but there are still plenty of people with the ability to think for themselves that believe otherwise.
