But who's to say that ISIS won't claim responsibility for this? They are pathetic opportunists who will use a tragedy and turn it into an opportunity.

As for the reports of deaths, I just watched the whole damn thing and I have not seen anything that suggests that there were causalities. CNN and Reddit should hold their horses because nothing has been confirmed, and ABC just confirmed that 'all reports are speculation'.

BBC and sky news are saying 4 injured,no mention of any fatalities.
Lets hope it stays that way.

Sounds to me like the guy should have been locked up ages ago,being a multiple sex offender and possibly involved in the murder of his wife.

Nope. Those individuals that threw the stun grenades after the first team breached will probably get a beat down and thrown off the team.

He is dead and it seems that there is much more here that is not mainstream.

1. Recently converted to Islam from Rafidi making him want to be under the rule of Islam which explains support for ISIS
2. Friday he was in court and new sexual charges were coming and not overturned in court
3. He did not release anyone...all those people escaped

For sure. It also looked like a guy in the middle of the stack opened fire towards the breach / door-kicker, not sure what unit it was going in, but definitely saw some bonheaded maneuvers (even if this was a fast paced reaction to the hostage taker opening fire or something).

Not knocking the unit at all, just wondering how tactically sound their approach was and what actually happened in the cafe...

In the first hours of the siege, hostages were forced to hold what appeared to be an Islamic flag, identified as a Shahada flag, in the cafe window reading: "There is no god worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is his messenger."

The flag is used by the group Jabhat al-Nusra - which preaches jihad and has links to terror groups ISIS and Al Qaeda.

im not trying to talk like rambo and i know fear can cause you to clam up but fear can also motivate you...
this was 1 guy with 1 shotgun. a shotgun has a long draw. i dont think he could have had the gun on all people at the same time. people were free enough to escape.

i cant believe nobody went for the gun and/or his throat/balls.

im baffled by this....

all a person would need is a second or 2 of him not paying absolute attention and they could have that gun out of his hands.

i know i know, this is not the movies...i get it
but, you can ruin someone in less than a second

BBC sadly just said one hostage is dead,and the scumbag.
He started shooting,which forced the hand of the police to go in.

Prayers to the family of the deceased.

BBC are reporting one hostage and the gun man are dead.

Also reporting that it was tge gunmans actions that triggered the armed incursion - not clear if he shot/killed a hostage

It is always sad to see innocent people die, but my congratulations do go out to the entire NSW Police Force, which handled the situation very well. There may have been some questionable maneuvers during the tense situation of breaching the cafe, but at least it was a success and the gunman is dead.

Hopefully the remaining injured recover quickly. RIP to the one unnamed hostage.

The TAC teams will be watching a video replay of their tactics (much like sports teams do) and some of the team members will be kicked to the curb. After all, this isn't sports, but rather something that has real life consequences.
