Praying for a peaceful end to this situation.

We all are.

Speak for yourself! As much as I want a quick, safe outcome for these hostages, praying does dick all. In fact, religion is the root cause of so much strife on this planet, including this event! Probably a touch of insanity thrown in.

I don't mean to be rude, but I can't help thinking recently that maybe what the world needs is a vast social movement to set aside religion in the name of peace, surely its worth it. Would you drop your religion to save one child, one innocent? I would.

I understand that the offering of prayer is a kind gesture, and I'm sorry to offend but the irony is huge.

Well that guy had a pump action shotgun.

Depending on the model carries 5 to 9 rounds.

That's still LEGAL even by the most draconian gun control laws.

They don't stop events like that cafe.

They only create victims,

ETA: Given the guy's criminal history it was already illegal for him to have one.

I'll bet my lefty he didn't obtain it legally though. I'm pretty sure he didn't walk into his local police station and apply to purchase one, verify he has real requirements for it and then wait a lengthy cooling off period before being able to buy one, then wait another cooling off period and then take it back to the police station to have it registered to his name. Like I said before, it would have been stolen.

I just wanted to thank the people who sent me lovely private messages of support.

Yesterday is a day i never want to experience again. The two hours of not knowing if my brother was a hostage was dreadful, but we were the lucky ones. My heart absolutely goes out to those who were in there and their families.

We are hearing that my brothers 4 work mates have made it out but their condition and injuries are unknown. I pray this is true but also feel terrible because no matter what two people have lost their lives.

I want to apologise to missmeg if i over reacted when she posted the f/b link. I absolutely freaked out because she was one of the his work mates.

I think that as a country, Australia needs to have an open discussion on issues like immigration, mental illness and deporting people who are not prepared to adopt our country like we adopt them. we need to be able to do this without fear of stupid labels like racism being thrown around. We in the western world have become so frightened of offending that the majority just shut their mouth because the minority shout the loudest.

Glad to hear that your brother is ok! Hope his workmates are ok too.

I agree about your call for change without the term racism being thrown around.

What's the saying - "the squeakiest wheel gets all the oil" - something like that.

Right you are sir! People can't really move forward with rehabbing the Earth when they are repeatedly told their life doesn't matter and that the real life is coming next in heaven. Sorry, our life is not a rehearsal for a play yet to come, it is in fact the main event.

The hostages who were killed have been named. I'm not sure it would be respectful to post their names here, even though the media has released them. So... in case anybody would like to know, it's out there.

Really ?

Had no idear that wishing those people in the cafe would stay out of harms way was such an 'insult'.

And no religion is not the 'root cause' of the strife on the planet.

ALL that SNIP has never been in the name of god by what ever name he/she is called.

That is, and has been done in the name of MAN.

Anyone who has paid a modicum of attention KNOWS the true message is about love, peace, and goodwill towards their fellow man.

Apparently, there was a Brazilian woman who was a hostage. She's fine, although it seems like she's hurt her feet, no idea how.

ETA: she was one of the women who had to record a video.

Shocked to see so many ATSers just jump straight on the mainstream bandwagon. This incident has got false flag written all over it. There were also terror drills in the area about a year ago.NZ had just past anti terror laws and oh now look what happens! It's all been justified now! pats on the back all round guys!

Just watched the video of the takedown. Well done boys

And to whomever asked about them tossing stunners after making entry: no, that would not have stunned the team that was inside. They train with them and know how to protect themselves from the effects. The longer the subject is disoriented and confused, the better for everybody. Trade secrets my son

No that was amateurish.

You clearly don't live in Australia, mate life is not so serious and no body is ultra suspicious of each other, Anyone can do this on any given day without anyone batting an eyelid because we dont have a gun problem.

I am so glad that this horrible ordeal is over, very sad news to wake up to about the deaths of the 2 hostages, my heart is with their families at this heartbreaking, painfull time.. I hope that our government learns for this and makes the right changes to keep our country safe, like deporting such people that show red flags and refuse to abide by our rules and respect us Australians and our way of life just like we accept their way of life in our Country, they are free to do what they want (legally) and we should be free to do what we want without living in fear of monsters like that man. We are where majority of Middle Easterners come to be at Peace and live a comfortable life and they don't need this either, there is enough of it where they came from.
