TO some other advocates, if we only speak the truth and deal with facts, substantiated, provable, testable measurable facts when we claim to speak scientifically, the opinions of just about anyone short of a obviously abusive and hateful person are fine. One notices, though, that the true purveyors of absolutist thought, while often masquerading as open-minded "defenders of freedom," are usually those who would say that science only deals in absolute certainties, for example, rather than reporting the results of examination and investigation and offering reasonable conclusions. They have become corrupted by their own extremist beliefs, and are so brittle, that any evidence offered to the contrary of their belief-based nonsense seems to them to be an attack.
We notice that these folks almost always refer to some dark nefarious plot among "liberals" or "progressives" or "disciples of Alinsky" when, in reality, none of those pejoratives apply. It's a habit with these folks to dismiss not with facts, but with fallacious appeals to authorities that somehow, never really back up their claims.
