Russian Tanks Move Across Ukraine Border: NATO Chief Breedlove

Russian tanks, artillery and air defense systems have poured into Ukraine over the past two days, NATO's top commander said Wednesday. U.S. Gen. Philip Breedlove expressed concern that the border between the former Soviet allies was now "completely wide open," allowing Moscow to potentially bolster rebels in eastern Ukraine who are skirmishing with government troops despite a cease-fire. "We have seen columns of Russian equipment, primarily Russian tanks, Russian artillery, Russian air defense systems and Russian combat troops entering into Ukraine," Breedlove told reporters in Bulgaria. His remarks were confirmed to NBC News by NATO. "What worries me the most," Breedlove said, was that the Russia-Ukraine border was "completely porous" and "completely wide-open."

"Forces, money, support, supplies, weapons are flowing back and forth across this border completely at will," Breedlove said. "That is not a good situation." Moscow has consistently denied that it is supporting Ukrainian rebels andd on Wednesday Russia's Defense Ministry promptly dismissed Breedlove's allegations. "We've already stopped taking note of the unfounded statements by NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, Gen. Philip Breedlove, on Russian military columns he supposedly saw intrude the Ukrainian territory," Defense Ministry Spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov told the state-run news agency Itar-Tass.

An interesting response from Russia... "supposedly saw"?

NATO: Yes, Russian Troops Are Pouring Into Ukraine

NATO: Russian troops enter Ukraine

NATO has confirmed Russian military has entered Ukraine.

Would this be another one of those non insignia moments?

Where's the proof? We all know that is what Russian apologists are going to say. I'm not even sure why NATO would bother making a statement without satellite imagery to back it up. Not that I have any doubts the Russians are helping the rebels. The proof is all over youtube and twitter.

Fair point.. However in this case an Emergency meeting on the UN Security Council has been called for today regarding the claims Breedlove is making.

The UN Security Council was set to hold an emergency session to discuss the Ukraine crisis later Wednesday, with representatives from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) set to give an update on the situation on the ground.

The OSCE, which is monitoring the ceasefire, warned Tuesday there was a “rising” risk of an escalation in the conflict, which has claimed more than 4000 lives since April, according to UN figures.

Its observers also reported seeing a convoy of 43 unmarked military trucks — five towing Howitzer heavy artillery pieces and another five towing multi-launch rocket systems — travelling into the rebel stronghold of Donetsk on Tuesday.

Russia denies NATO accusations over troops in Ukraine

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia denied accusations by NATO on Wednesday that it has sent tanks and troops to eastern Ukraine in the past few days.

NATO's top military commander Philip Breedlove said in Bulgaria the alliance had spotted military equipment arriving from Russia in regions of east Ukraine that are held by pro-Russian separatist rebels.

General-Major Igor Konashenkov, a Russian Defense Ministry official, dismissed the comments as anti-Russian "hot air" and said "there was and is no evidence" behind the NATO accusations.

"We have already stopped paying attention to unsubstantiated statements by NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Philip Breedlove, on Russian military convoys he 'observed' allegedly invading Ukraine," Konashenkov said.

I wish NATO would disappear. It was only relevant during the old cold war and now it is creating a new cold war.

No reports from within Ukraine but just claims from NATO?

But that's sufficient to take to the UN.

Convenient.

Ukraine has complained about the recent issue for the last week or so. Initially NATO could not confirm the information but that apparently has changed.

BBC Ukraine crisis: Russian troops crossed border, Nato says

"Russian tanks, Russian artillery, Russian air defence systems and Russian combat troops" were sighted, US Gen Philip Breedlove said.

Russia's defence ministry denied that its troops were in eastern Ukraine to help pro-Russian separatists there.

However, the rebels have admitted being helped by "volunteers" from Russia.

The United Nations Security Council is convening emergency session later on Wednesday to discuss the reported sightings.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has reported seeing unmarked convoys in the region in recent days.

Where's the proof?

Why would it only be apologists asking for proof?

Surely everyone should be asking for this!

Please show me information coming from the Ukrainian government which proved to be actual true.

The moment we see Ukrainian army getting hammered with heavy losses we actual know Russians are there. This is nothing more as the same old saga with Kiev/Breedlove (first it was Rasmussen) doing the same thing over and over again.

Wake me up when NATO and Kiev have begun really crying again.

If i remember correctly, you have been telling us this EXACT story since August...and as always, you've got no proof just reports from NATO. Why do you even bother? And do you ever get bored of posting anti-Russian threads, day after day since August?

I see you guys are on the baseless anti Russia kick again.

Posting news stories containing Russia are not anti Russia. since you missed it I posted the Russian response to the accusations. Is there any reason you failed to note that or did it not fit in with the typical attacks you guys do?

I also see you ignored what the rebel commander said about Russian assistance.

There is a Un security council meeting scheduled today over it. Lets wait and see what happens.

I have to question the amount of times that Russia has been accused of invading .Now all of a sudden the UN is going to have a emergency meeting .What makes this new invasion more critical then the other invasions ? It almost seems that the west is trying to create a new cold war of sorts to legitimize NATO's existence . a reply to: Xcathdra

They've never been accused of a full scale invasion. They've been accused of supplying rebels with weapons, support, and fighters.

If Russia wanted to wage a full scale invasion of the Ukraine, they would have been on Kiev's doorstep a long time ago.

That is nothing my friends and I was going to start a new thread on the latest propaganda coming from the BBC because according to them nukes are being deployed.

Nukes now deployed by Russia

This is the 11th time that the BBC has gone on about some Russian invasion if you include the spin doctors "Russian Aid Invasion" but so far we have seen nothing that looks even remotely like the D-Day landing or anything else.

General Breedlove also confirmed that Nato believes Russia is deploying nuclear-capable weapons to Crimea - a reference to reports that Russia is deploying short-range Iskander ballistic missiles there that could potentially be equipped with nuclear warheads.

Source

Well without any proof I believe that Santa Clauses is a woman and her reindeer could have been replaced with Elephants this year.

Next we can expect unnamed sources being reported by the BBC as saying China has told Russia that it has twenty atomic warheads ready to fire at a second notice if Russia is attacked and they are all pointing at the BBCs headquarter.

Yes I know we have a media war going on but one side is calling wolf in its sleep and is playing with words as if we are all stupid and presents not a shred of evidence to backup its story telling.
