This is an "award" winning picture of an Iranian protesting Dutch authorities. His eyes and lips are sown shut? Is this insanity genertic? Are all those in or from the middle east brain damaged?

I hope not.

Edit to say: SOrry for the short post, but I cannot believe that one mans actions could even nearly mean that all Middle Eastern people are like that.

Anyway, how can self mutilation solve anything? Sewing ones mouth obviously renders one unable to speak. Therefore they can't speak out about the injustices that they are protesting!

It seems to defeat the purpose. But it worked for Ghandi. So hey, more power to him.

As a photo, it's mesmerizeing yet repulsive at the same time.
Makes me wonder about what the man in the picture is "saying"
with his sewn shut lips.

It is pretty arrogant to acuse someone of being bigoted based upon 2 questions. To "deny Ignorance" then provide the answers. It can't be that difficult.

How about "Is DrHoracid's family brain damaged?", or perhaps "Is everyone in or from DrHoracid's country brain damaged?"

I think hes trying to say/show "my issue is unseen and unheard" "i have no voice against injustice/I am unheard"

Yes Instar I think so too. It's a photo that obviously causes emotion
in those who look at it.
Those who might be only be looking on the surface only see how this man
has mutilated his own body. There are others who look a little deeper
and can see the symbolism of this photo.

This type of protest is common.... happens quite often in Australia with Asylum Seekers. Most are Middle-Eastern so it might have some type of powerful cultural/ historical meaning.

There are many types of protest that perhaps are "self-destructive", protestors lighting themselves on fire comes first to mind... hunger strikes, even suicide can sometimes be a form of protest.

A Georgia man fatally shot himself at Ground Zero, and friends believe the tragic suicide was a political protest against President Bush's reelection and the war in Iraq.

People have been banned for less on this forum. I guess the resident nutjobs are allowed exception to the rules. Good, shows the mentality of some of these people.

I see the holier than thou liberals can't take any generalization with a grain of salt to see the truth contained therein, as if this is the only evidence of bigotry on ATS. It's only fair to be a bigot if you hate Americans, Christians, males, whites, Western Civilization, people over thirty, or morality.

The photos I've seen on ATS of the dead bodies in Iraq are far worse
than this photo.
