I'm in Florida and the lightning and thunder are like nothing I've seen or heard. Is this from the solar storm?

Aw I'm just a little to far south to see the lights, even with the power boost they got from the flair it looks like.

FLAIR - definition……. a special or instinctive aptitude or ability for doing something well

FLARE - definition …. a sudden brief burst of bright flame or light.

FYI….

The lightning was so bad last night, so many strikes so fast and for so long. It caused a sinkhole. I still don't know if this was from the solar flare or what, but I've never in my life witnessed such lightning. It was incredible to see.

I've never seen the colours we see in pics. The first time I was in northern BC and saw white beams coming down from the sky, very strange, had no idea what it was. Went home to southern BC. And thought these beams are following me! The next time I saw them they were just wispy white ghost things and part of the sky looked maroon colour.

Yea, its pretty intense when red-green-blue colors are dancing around and in the skies directly overhead. I've only seen them that one time like that in my life. Once-in-a-lifetime I guess. That's too bad because I've always wanted to see them like that again.

I knew it!

Late last night my TV signal and wireless internet connection went down and I considered that it might be due to a solar flare, but I didn't give it a second thought.

I envy those who live in the northern latitudes because it would've made a fantastic lights show.

Okay, it's here, just received this text notification from Space Weather:

"A CME has just hit Earth's magnetic field. Strong geomagnetic storms are possible in the hours ahead"

Well space weather.com is down right now. I guess due to heavy traffic.

Yeah, I have been trying to get on spaceweather for a little while now and can't.

*grumble*

Great, it's back up now, DB. Here's the latest summation:

Source: spaceweather.com...

THE SECOND CME HAS ARRIVED: For the second time today, a CME has hit Earth's magnetic field. The first strike, described below, was relatively minor. The second impact, which occured at approximately 1600 UT, could be more potent CME #2 was propelled toward Earth by a powerful X-class solar flare on Sept. 10th. It could spark strong geomagnetic storms extending from Earth's poles to mid-latitudes. Stay tuned for updates about this developing story--and be alert for auroras!

I wish some of y'all experts on this subject would help read the data, it's not my strong suit for sure.

I don't know if it's related, but we just had 2 power breakdowns (18.45 and 7.10) this afternoon in Athens, When I called the power company they told me a transformer had blown up.

I haven't been able to get spaceweather to load all day

Its bad imo that its hitting now we are getting hit directly, but I don't think its strong enough to do widespread damage.

I've been keeping up with this. Thank you for posting about it, and for all the continued updates. Just finished shopping, so just in case anything happens, though hopefully not, I should be ready for it. I really wish I could see the auroras. I've always wanted too. Hopefully someday.

It's not my strong suit either. The only expert I know of on ats won't show up unless we write conspiracy stuff like this will destroy our planet. Oddly enough he doesn't contribute his expertise otherwise. (cough)

ETA Forgot my text to go with this.

Solar radiation storm elevated to S2
S2 is:

Biological: passengers and crew in high-flying aircraft at high latitudes may be exposed to elevated radiation risk.*** Satellite operations: infrequent single-event upsets possible. Other systems: small effects on HF propagation through the polar regions and navigation at polar cap locations possibly affected.
Source

So here goes my conspiracy mind : do they tell people boarding flights there's a risk to radiation?

I think this second flare is upon us now. Not sure. Just taking a wild guess because the sudden impulse warning coincides with the flare arriving, or it did yesterday.

Need to get on soaceweather. Will check my app instead.

ETA it's been downgraded to S1 now. It was at S 2
