Anyone know if what's currently on the Vice News feed is really live now? Kind of sounds like it was earlier, but it says 'Live.'

I hope everyone is watching Capt. Ron Johnson on CNN...he is speaking a lot of truth right now.

He is basically saying what I have been saying...he gets compliants if he responds like he did tonight, people are mad. If he responds where he ordered police officers not to use those measures and so they are force to allow looters do their thing, people are mad.

I really think the best solution right now is for the peaceful protestors to do what Ron Johnson suggested and that is to protest all day, and go home when it is 4pm.

This frees the police to respond to the bad apples out there in a more effective way without having to worry about endangering peaceful protestors. As of right now...they are basically handcuffed to sit and watch a mob form and not respond until their own safety is directly threatened.

He also said that he may be making some press angry tonight at his press conference...because they are part of the problem as well. For as much as I like watching the feeds....the police know reporters are out there and that hinders their ability to respond effectively as well. Just like with Tim Pool tonight...when live shots started firing from the crowd...the police had to come over to evacuate them out of the area instead of just responding to the shots fired.

The police are putting their own lives in danger by going to get the press out of a live shooting area instead of protecting their own lives. I'm all for free press...but something has to change.

Some of these reporters have reported from declared war zones and have not been put in this position or treated this way.

I knew that response was coming and this is not a declared war zone.

You're right----IT'S A CONSTITUTIONAL AMERICAN ZONE. Where freedom of the press reigns, hence the ENTIRE reason why there's "credentialed press" and then just us people reporting what we see. When you are credentialed, you get the right (and have the responsibility) to obey the law but get full-access unless it's "classified". Tonight was not classified. Give it up.

He was told to leave multiple times and if he was arrested it's his own fault for not listening. Just because you have a press pass doesn't give you full reign. It's been ruled in the Supreme Court that the Media has no greater legal right of access to crime and disaster areas than does the general public.

Let me remind everyone the First Amendment was trampled upon during The BP oil spill, Hurricane Sandy, and most recently at the border crisis to name just a few.

Controlling the media is now SOP, I'm afraid.

Thugs Attempt to Light Molotov Cocktails in Ferguson

No need to "walk" me through the thread because I've read the entire thread.

Well I think that I may have to, cause the evidence is right in front of your face. What, do you think that just because when the reporter was standing there with them and that they didn't get them lighted, that when he walked away, any other time during the night they did not? I mean, do you understand what a load of bs that is?

]As I posted earlier, Vice reporter just walked past a few of the building that the police apologists say were "burned to the ground"----pretty quick rebuilding going there I'd say.

I posted the video that showed the protestors putting the fire out, and Vice Media validating it, as well as Vice Media validating that someone threw a Molotov Cocktail at the Chop Suey Joint. Doesn't matter if other protestors put the fire out, others there supposedly peacefully protesting started it. That's my point.

Anyway, these issues are emotionally heated, and sometimes people get very passionate about them, and I understand that. I respect everyone's opinion here, and I still enjoy the discussion even if some of us disagree. Let's see what happens tonight. I hope nobody is harmed on either side. ~$heopleNation

You posted something that showed what the reporter called a Molotov cocktail that was thrown after the police had already attacked.
Let me be clear here---that was not a Molotov cocktail. I've seen cocktails thrown and the results are more like the image posted by someone earlier. Whatever it was that was thrown was something that was on fire but was hastily stomped out by some of the protesters. You simply can't stomp out a Molotov cocktail that way. By the same token, if Molotov cocktails were being thrown at police we would see the results quite plainly because they make a big whoosh! and then a lot of dispersed fire. sigh...it's a sad day when I have to explain to people what a Molotov cocktail is...
Just because a reporter doesn't know what he's seeing and makes an error in reporting---like the guy who thought foam ear plugs were rubber bullets---doesn't mean that we have to go along with their error.
Your claim that the Chop Suey was burned down was completely false as shown by Vice's report as he walked by it earlier this evening. It is obviously still standing and not noticeably damaged by fire. The windows are covered in plywood, which would have gone up like tinder had a Molotov cocktail hit it. A flaming object hit it and was rapidly extinguished by people standing near it. To keep repeating that it was a Molotov cocktail is simply spreading dis-information.
No sensible person is excusing criminal behavior. I've said from the very start of this on Sunday evening that outside elements were up to no good. The looting began after the Chicago gang arrived on Sunday.
You are correct in saying that some of us get passionate. We lived through 1968 and saw the damage that these thugs can do to entire towns. We watched the police departments turn dogs and water cannons on people who were doing nothing but standing or sitting for their rights as human beings.
I see no difference today. The people of Ferguson have had it up to their ears with police brutality---they're mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore. If you've seen the arrest/stop/search records that have been made public, you should understand their anger and resentment. If you saw the way the police began the "riot" on Saturday night with their disrespect for the people they're supposed to be protecting and serving, you should understand their outrage.
It is sad and very disturbing to me that someone was able to convince that fool in the governor's office to declare an emergency and then martial law. The town was not burning. Commerce had not been shut down. Only a small area was impacted and yet because the police were acting like jack-booted thugs, they could not maintain order. It seems to me that achieving order was the last things on their minds since they seemed more intent on subduing protest than on keeping order. Perhaps the police should have spoken with the LEOs in Florida about dealing with racially charged protests.

Yes, it does, so long as you are not obstructing LEO from doing their jobs or accessing classified material. ZERO reporters were obstructing justice by simply not turning the correct corner or shutting their cameras off tonight. ZERO reporters stood in the way of preventing or solving crimes. And if the SCOTUS ruled that reporters have no more "right" to report on and access the truth when just simply being in one place that doesn't block LEO from "protecting and serving", I would like to see the case, the quote that supports your claim, and then I'll be out there tonight with my own protests signs because that is unconstitutional.

Again, the ENTIRE reason to have "official press" and then "just the rest of us." Press knows how to NOT obstruct justice. THE ENTIRE POINT!!!!!

Obviously that not what the police thought. Multiple reporters had no problem and the few that did, most likely, didn't listen. Tim Poole talked to multiple cops and had no issue and he left when he was told and went to the designated areas when he was told.

What rights do journalists have at accident or disaster scenes?

The courts haven’t recognized that the news media have any constitutional guarantee of access to any particular scene. However, there are statutory rights in a few states and case law in others that protect press access from unreasonable restriction.

The courts have generally stood behind journalists who act reasonably in trying to get information — but courts have not protected those who blatantly disregard police orders. Courts have recognized under the First Amendment a press privilege to be left alone by the police, so long as the media do not unreasonably interfere with or obstruct police activity or risk their own personal safety. In Connell v. Town of Hudson, for example, a 1990 case in New Hampshire, a federal judge found that a news photographer had a First Amendment

Right from www.firstamendmentcenter.org...

He was told to vacate the area, and didn't.

Try your link again, that's just a "news" page. :/

ETA: just because some reporters retreat when they get scared, doesn't mean that's what they LEGALLY have to do. Just because LEO says "leave" doesn't mean that's LEGAL for them to order the press to do.

Again, please, quote that supports your claim these press people tonight were breaking any laws or didn't have the right to stay when not obstructing justice.
