Most likely a hoax in my opinion.....BUT...

There are HUGE differences between a government sponsored "purge" like in the movie making everything legal
(except class 4 explosives ) and just a crime wave instigated by hoodlums.

This was my initial thought as well. I googled for "The Purge 3" and found an article dated this July that said they were just in the discussion phase about what the basis of a #3 would consist of...so I think at least a PR stunt for the film series can be ruled out.

Good point...

They've just released the second one about a month ago, and the ongoing events have coincided with recent information about 'The Purge 3'.

If someone types in The Purge on Google, as a result of these flyers and current events, they are going to be led to news about the movies, the recent release and the news about the third one.

I still think it is a type of PR stunt, but it is too early to tell right now.
