Someone has just realeased photos on twitter of the cop allegedly responsible for the shooting.

Whether he is at fault or just another officer on the force, this man is now a target. Hope people don't do anything stupid.

Are you #ing kidding me pal?

We tried due process of law - you know what happened? Oh yeah that's right - Every single time a cop murdered an unarmed civilian they were given paid vacation and then transferred to another department. When was the last time a murdering pig even SAW an indictment? Let alone a conviction. Hell - who I am kidding? They never even get fired.

We are beyond due process. It does not apply to them. Your opinion means nothing here - you chose to run away to the god damn jungle. Many of us are not quite as fortunate and are stuck here in this ever constricting police state.

Then you have the nerve to come in here and defend what this police state is doing? You are deluded , deluded and naive - simply put.

Newsflash - you're average criminal is not armed with an assault rifle. One out of every few criminals may have a handgun at most. SO #ing what? The police signed up for this - they chose this line of work. They've got their fancy body armor and their bulletproof vests.

I am so tired of hearing this 'get home to see their family at night bullcrap.' If they cared about their family so much - they'd choose a different line of work, simply really.

The amount of police being killed in the USA has only gone down lower and lower in the past decades.

Meanwhile the numbers of joe citizen being killed or beaten by a cop having roid rage have gone up exponentially. It is so bad - the feds refuse to even release the actual numbers of people killed and/or beaten unjustly by police.

Take your due process and shove it up your ass.

I will HAPPILY accept due process WHEN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM ACTUALLY PROSECUTES THESE BASTARDS!

Get it? Good. Hard to accept due process when the police are not subjugated to laws now is it not?

Perhaps it would help if authorities took the officer into protective custody.

I guarantee you the officer in question if long gone from the state by now.

This will come to a white neighborhood soon - and all of you justifying the police action by the looting will have to can it.

True.

Or perhaps it would be better if the cops changed the way they did things, communicated with the public and held officers truly accountable when they cross the line.

Not saying this officer was at fault here, but it seems that we would not be in the situation we are in now if the people did not feel like the police were abusing their authority and hiding their mistakes.

Just a thought.

as a white guy living in a predominantly African American neighborhood, with some very bad neighborhoods near by I notice something different here... it might be because we are a smaller city than a st Louis area.

But the cops in my city are very very professional... they do not mess with people, if they pull you over you were caught breaking a law, they do not show up in riot gear to a tense situation they come in talking first ( I have no doubt the cops in riot gear are close by). Even though by many cities standards this is a very poor department money wise they try hard to treat everyone with some degree of respect because (I say this because I have talked with them) they understand they are badly outnumbered in the event of a riot they will be run out of town in a hurry.

So the first response when their is no more continuation of violence is to talk with people and keep a dialogue going,I don't understand why that seems to be out of the play book for many police stations.

I have a question for you, if you don't mind me asking?

When in recent history has there been an instance of "white neighborhoods" rioting?

Just curious because I am trying to recall the time and place but I am unable to.

Also are the police supposed to just sit back and watch the events unfolding on television? Are they supposed to ignore the innocent people taht are being put at risk, by burning and destroying property? Why shouldn't they engage the ignorant law breakers?

Yes, it is St. Louis, not Mogadishu.

As a general response to the OP I will chime in again on the growing law enforcement priority of self defense, they're own, over public safety. I hope I never live to see the day police organized and armed as well or better than an infantry platoon bring to bear such weapons on the public. I remember after flying into Montego Bay when I was a teen, being terrified of men patrolling the terminal wearing BDU's and armed with FN FALs, and the adults in our group reassuring us that would never be the norm back home--in America.

Overgrown boys playing cowboys and Indians have a lot of penis envy for military paraphernalia?

That's all I can figure. The fact that the Lords of War see profit in offloading military style / surplus gear to local police departments is just the icing on the cake.

Except you are not there and the media is tightly regulated and controlled. Can you really believe the stories and pictures you see about looting?

I'm not sure I can anymore.

With the rioting and looting going on along with the thugs doing the rioting and looting being armed ... consider it acceptable for order to be restored to the area ..

Fully agree with you. When those animals stop looting and rioting, destroying legit businesses and stores, then this wouldn't happen. If you want to act like a group of barbarians, you're going to get treated as such.

All you people whining and moaning that "this is a police state, this is over-kill", blah blah blah, you probably don't live anywhere near a major city or ghetto. And, if you do and you're still complaining, then you're part of the problem. In Chester, Pa, a few miles from me, there's killing every damn day and the police are saying "We can't do any more, we need the people of the cities help". WELL GUESS WHAT, THEY AIN'T GONNA HELP!!! I wish they would do this in Chester to keep the filth from overflowing into the rest of the area and ruining my property value and my school systems.

You don't get rewarded when you act like an asshole, you get stomped. As far as people who aren't involved in the riots being in the middle of this, too bad, blame your fellow citizens you live around for ruining your day.

You will not convince me that there is a good reason for the police to be outfitted just like the military.

I'm sure they won't convince you, but the next new hires to put their life on the line in the streets might be convinced.

Also, have any of you considered the possibility that maybe the black American populace are the only ones with the stones to do anything about the tyranny? Sure, the idiots are looting - others are simply taking to the streets to make their voices heard which is more than the white populace ever does for anything.

Let's face facts - what happened to say Kelly Thomas, or that boy who answered the front door with a Wii controller, or that man out in the Nevada desert who were all unarmed and murdered by police - these cases were all much worse than what happened here in Ferguson. Strictly in terms of the blatant wrongdoing by officers. These were all white people killed in cold blood.

But what did the white populace do? Nothing. I believe there were 1 or two protests over the Kelly Thomas thing but then nothing but silence after the officers involved got off Scott free.

Perhaps the reality is - the white populace is too damned brainwashed at this point to have the stones to say enough is enough.

I am not saying this is the case - but it is certainly something to consider. This is coming from a white guy mind you.

Its just a tad unnerving to see this specific case kick all of this off when much worse cases have came and gone by without even a blink of the eyelids from the general populace....
