If police aggression towards young black men was not a real problem, I do not think the community would break out in riots.

These riots were not about social inequity but were pure and wanton opportunism. Arson and felony theft do not address what happened to that young man.

I am not defending the actions of the rioters. No doubt many have criminal intent and are merely seizing the opportunity.

The law, at least Ferguson's perception of the Law, committed a lawless act. Now the community is acting lawlessly.

Cause and effect.

I do not think it is the community, just a bunch of lawless, filthy opportunists.

The real community is out peaceably protesting and not trashing their neighborhood and I applaud them for that restraint.

Um, no , I think he means showing restraint by just trashing the neighborhood and not leveling it to the ground.

If there were, would you know it? What makes you think the biased liberal media would ever report that?

Maybe, maybe not. But I'm absolutely sure that the Biased Conservative Media would show it. Outlets like Fox news would have whole hour long special reports about it.

Or did you just forget about the fact that there is also a Conservative Bias in Media out there as well???

I live about 10 miles from the original shooting site.

The town of Ferguson is a peaceful and lovely place. I shop there often and drive through there all the time. It is racially mixed, as is my neighborhood.

This is a horrible set up put in place by outside forces to aggravate the local crowd. Professional "disturbers' Including Nation of Islam are here, and they are fomenting the people. I heard a young woman telling the news man on the scene that a truck was throwing tee shirts to everyone. The shirts were stamped with "don't shoot". A looter told another news man he and his friends came over to "show how it's done".

The looters broke into small local shops owned by black people. They ruined 2 vital gas stations.

The local people cleaned up last night's riots.

I listen to the news from many outlets and NO ONE knows why the young man was shot. For that matter no one knows where he was shot. The story is very fluid.

Not justifying their actions, but the gas station that caught the brunt of it may have called the police that ultimately killed him. I read something about cigars he got from there, but it was unclear whether they were implying he shoplifted them or that it was the focus of their anger over a miscommunication.

One thing that is clear from eyewitness(es) is that he ran from the police, was shot once, then turned around with his hands in the air and was shot several additional times as he was attempting to kneel in compliance with the officer's orders.

This is a local news report about it here with other follow up links and stuff. Eye witness reports about what happened are included. Maybe this will help some of you to get more info about it.

Question for ATSers;

Are you more concerned with property crimes or a murder? I agree that the business were unfairly targeted and that the rioters actions were unjustified. But those businesses have insurance; they only lost a deductible.

But someone also lost his life and a mother lost her only son who was set to go to college. It seems that we should be right there with the rioters in spirit, while acknowledging that their actions were inappropriate. The rampage of police brutality and misconduct in this country has reached a boiling point. That is the most important take away from this. If any of us can not count on lawfulness from law enforcement, then none of us can count on it and none of us are safe from them and without rule of law we have anarchy.

I have seen some of the same ATSers that are now upset about the riot OUTRAGED about an officer shooting a dog. They would not accept that the dog did anything to justify the shooting. Now those same people easily assume that the kid most have done something to deserve it. Eye witnesses say he was first shot while running away, then fatally shot when he turned around with his hands up. 9 shots hit him, 8 after he had surrendered. What are we to take from this? Do you value the life of a dog more than that of a black kid? Are you more concerned with property than the life of a young man?

Look, these people looting don't really care for the death of the young man, i'm pretty sure most of the people looting weren't even out protesting at first until they saw that they could go get themselves a new pair of Jordans for free, and to answer what you said about people here at ATS not caring for the "black kid", I for one think it is sad that he had to die and for all we know the officer could of been justified or he could of went way out of protocol and murdered the boy, but what I don't understand is why the African American community has to go crazy when someone other than one of their own kills one of them? Black on black killings go on everyday but when a white on black killing happens they need to call for justice and national attention.

84% of whites murdered were killed by another white. But I got pretty damn upset when that white couple down in TN was kidnapped, rapped and murdered by a gang of blacks. I would be off my rocker if it happened in the south side of Chicago and the blacks were not a gang but police officers who were let off with a reprimand and two weeks docked pay by the black police chief. And this was the fourth or fifth time it happened this year.

So 1. You have to be able to understand where others are coming from in this world man. 2. Ever damn one of the rioters was there because they had misplaced rage from what had happened that night. They all knew the kid was one of the few kids to get to college and keep his nose clean in that environment. In fact, that was precisely why they were rioting. It wasn't because cops killed a black kid. It was cops even will kill the "good black kid" over nothing.

So i'm guessing you were one of those rioters? You know what was going through their minds? We can't say the boy was killed over nothing yet until some investigating is done, we also can't take witness statements serious either because in areas like where the boy was gunned down siding with the cops is something you don't do, we'll see what really happened once an investigation is done.

Here is a list of business that were looted there are 2 on the list that may be locally owned.

JC Wireless and Beauty Town
Hibbett Sports
Advance Auto Parts
Quik Trip
Autozone
Toy R Us
Taco Bell
T-Mobile
Zisser Tire and Auto
Radio Shack

Zisser and JC Wireless might be locally owned the other are very large corporations and I guarantee none of the owners live in Ferguson.

Interactive Map of Shooting, Looting and Violence

Members also keep saying neighbor houses were burned down but there is no evidence of this.

Exactly my point I'm trying to make thank you

I see you have no stars for posting these facts

I guess it doesn't sit with the racial agenda of some posters on here

I have watched you post over and over, that vandalism and stealing are the appropriate steps to seek justice.

You are wrong on so many levels, I can't list them all.

I can only assume, you are royally pissed that you missed out on grabbing your slice of the loot pie.

Des

No I'm not royally pissed at all I'm quite happy with everything I own which I have worked hard for for my family

And no what I'm saying is when peaceful protest don't work violent protests is all that's left
